The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@mindatwork – regarding JMU MT/Theatre acceptance notification – because we still have 2 audition days in NYC, and 3 on-campus audition days we do not accept many from the fall auditions. We did let some know that they were accepted to the program(s) or not accepted into the program(s), but most will remain pending until after we complete auditions in February. EA academic acceptance prospective student portals that still have a pending status for the major admissions will be updated with major admissions information by the beginning of March.

RD prospective students should all be notified of their academic and major admissions decisions through their portal at the same time toward the middle or end of March.

Thank you @KatMT !

For those of you that may have missed it. Below is a message from Kaitlin Hopkins, Head of Musical Theatre at Texas State, regarding Combines. Combines are held Jan. 18 in NYC at Chelsea Studios. Call backs will be on the days after the Combine so, for Texas State, the Combine is a live prescreen and the callback will be your final audition. Not sure about the other schools (Shenandoah, Missouri State, Wagner, Arizona State, Texas Tech and North Dakota) attending.

“Just FYI! On January 18th for any high school seniors who may have missed Texas State’s deadline for application to the BFA musical theater program for fall 2019. We will be in New York as part of an open call with 6 other programs if you want to come audition for us! We will hold callbacks on Jan 19th and 20th. Please help us spread the word to anyone you think may be interested. And a Happy New Year to all!” -Kaitlin Hopkins on Facebook

I don’t know if other people have asked this but does anyone know how long the Otterbein dance call at Unifieds usually is?

Hi there! For point park on-campus auditions, does anyone how auditions structured—dance call before or after auditions? I’m guessing they divide kids into groups and some go to dance & others auditions. Thanks!

@MThopeful99 I’m thinking it’s only 2 hours at the most since the morning calls are at 8am and the first audition slots are 10am. Not positive, but this is how my D and I planned her audition schedule with them. However, just to be safe, I called and left a message with the department to confirm. I will repost when/if I get a definitive answer.

It’s good to be back! My wife and I went through this very demanding process last year with our D… and we all survived! D is at a wonderful school, truly growing and enjoying (most) every bit of it! So there is hope. For those of you working your way to the next wonderful stage, I would like to offer a bit of what we learned from our experience:
(1) Like childbirth, you will eventually “forget” how painful this was (at least from the father’s perspective {HA}.
(2) Relish every moment you get to spend with your child: most likely she or he is leaving in less than a year.
(3) See every show/rehearsal/showcase you possibly can now … many schools don’t allow students to perform or
audition until their sophomore or junior years. For those of us who have lived the past 14 or 15 years watching our
daughters and sons on stage: withdrawal is tough! I can’t tell you how many nights I’ve spent with a bottle of wine
and high-school bootlegs! For the love of all things holy, listen to them sing in the shower, even!
Finally, CC is truly a very special “place.” Every type of experience has been lived and worked through here. Use it!
Have I mentioned how good it is to be back? Break legs: I’m rooting for you!

@GratefulDad1968 Your post makes me cry! Items 2 and 3… :(( Glad your D is doing well.

@Mom2jnes I just asked my D about her audition at PPU. She says that the kids were split into groups. Her group had the dance call first.

@jenniferm1973 Thank you!

@Mom2jnes You’re welcome! Break a leg to your kiddo! Our D LOVES it there! It is a wonderful program

@jenniferm1973 - can I ask about the PPU audition- did your D show up dressed to dance or sing/act? We’re here for tomorrow’s audition and want to make she she’s dressed correctly. I assume they give them time to change if they don’t have the correct stuff on. Also heard they don’t give them a vocal warm up… is that true? Do they warm them up for dance?

I’ve lurked here for a while, and just want to thank everyone who has contributed to this discussion. This process has proved to be pretty challenging. I just want to say break a leg to all the kids and hang in there to all the parents.

Just think, this time next week…

@frisbee3 She showed up in the clothes she was singing/acting in since they don’t find out beforehand which group they are in. And yes, she had plenty of time to change. I have a message into her about the warm-ups…I honestly don’t remember.

oh my gosh one week till unifieds! Going CRAZY over here!!!

@Anybodyhaveamap LOVE the name! and @GratefulDad1968 just yes! Hysterical and true except my d and I are still suffering from PTSD from last year although my Deadhead husband is over it…must be all that mellow music!

@Anybodyhaveamap - sounds like you’re attending NY Unifieds! BAL!

@GratefulDad1968 - I also killed a glass or three over high school show DVDs this summer and fall! Nice to see you here! There’s also a facebook group for parents of the class of '22 - if you’re interested I’ll find the link.

@frisbee3 I totally understand your d’s desire to be in college in the fall. That was exactly how mine felt.

If you click on my name to the left, it brings you to another page, where there is a message icon right in the middle

@GratefulDad1968 #1 is funny. I have to sort of disagree though, I tend to get a little triggered when I come back here ~X( But like yours, my d is in a great place and is happy. Not seeing her perform as much is tough (it’s only been 7 months since her last show), but I am so blessed that she sends me snippets of things she is working on. One day, hubby and I were walking in the park (enjoying our leisurely time with an empty nest, lol) and she sent us a video of her singing. I was fighting back tears like a fool in the park.

@GratefulDad1968 Seriously…now I am all teary! This is such a stressful process for both the sons and daughters…and their parents…it is hard sometimes to see the forest for the trees! I am trying to enjoy the moments…and your post just reminded me how important it is. I already find myself rewatching videos…not sure what next year is going to be like! Thanks for the words of encouragement!
