<p>@Carnage6600: no APCS <em>at all</em> ?! does your school offer the course or allow you to sit AP exams without having taken the respective course? the robotics exC may help, but still, absent of proof of knowledge of (at least 2) CS languages, you may fall on the “demonstrated interest” part</p>
<p>@messiero: your academics are not problematic, especially with the double Econ APs. But you are not helping commentators with “3 years business club”. positions/achievement attained? a great component of business school admission is this demonstration of interest</p>
<p>@roboteer: save for poor/mediocre essays and recommendations, good prospect at CIT
@goldendomer11: which division? you must specify it on your application, and for ED you can only be considered for one; for RD you could be admitted at several. like you said, you do need to improve CR/W on SAT I</p>
<p>Copy pasting</p>
<p>GPA: 3.519 UW, no weighted nor rank in our school</p>
<p>ACT: 32 Composite, Highest each: 36 Math, 35 Science, 34 English, 26 Reading (Didn’t feel good in Reading section, taking another one in few weeks. Usually I get around 32~33 during practice).</p>
<p>SAT II’s:
Math IC: 780
Math IIC: 800
(Taking Chem this weekend, around 700)</p>
<p>APs:
AP Calculus BC
AP Statistics
AP Computer Science
AP Micro (currently taking)</p>
<p>Our school doesn’t offer much AP for the courses that I’m taking in; I have more requirement classes than some of the other students in our school, thus it is harder for me to fit in those AP courses.</p>
<p>Honors/Awards/Certificates:</p>
<p>CCNA 1 Certificate
Various Math Team awards
CompSci related awards
Golf Related awards
Dean’s List
President’s Volunteer Award, Bronze (government related)</p>
<p>EC:
AAST Math Team Captain
Varsity Golf 3 years, Captain
AltLaw (Project with Columbia University students, kept going until Google came up with something better)
CompSci Team
Battlebots</p>
<p>Internships/Works/Volunteer:
KAVC (Korean-American Voter’s Council. We did various things to help out the Korean Community, including but not limited to passing one of the bills in House of Representatives about the Comfort Women issue).
Fairleigh Dickinson University (Working on autonomous Jeep project)
Korean School Volunteer as Teacher’s Assistant
Working under Rutgers Professor to collect data for their classes
PGA Barclays Volunteer</p>
<p>Might as well as copy this from my resume:
Computer Skills
Java, C++, LISP, SQL Database, Microsoft Office, Sony Vegas Pro, Audio editing such as Audacity, GIMP, Networking, Http/Dreamweaver CS4, AutoCAD Inventor
(latter ones are all simple daily-use GUI programs (anything beyond office), but I listed them anyways)</p>
<p>Most of these were copied from my resume which I used to get an internship at FDU (listed above). Some of these are outdated and needs more work, others are pretty accurate.</p>
<p>My biggest concern is the GPA’s. I don’t know why, but I just do bad in classes (especially Junior year, but it was the time when someone passed away, and I took it very hard). I don’t think my EC’s/Awards are great either, which concerns me a lot.</p>
<p>Every classes that I take are either Honors or AP.</p>
<p>@ yuxiHY49: Our school has recently removed CS II AP, and I have been unable to take the other CS class due to a completely full course load all 4 years of high school. I wrote my supplemental essay on a voluntary extracurricular CS course that I am taking, and how I have helped the teacher out with it, so hopefully that will be enough…</p>
<p>Oh by the way… I’m going to apply to the Mellon College of Science</p>
<p>Applying to H&SS and Tepper - Most likely ED. Would my chances be better if I ED’d? I’ve already posted a CMU “chance me” thread, but I’d like to get more opinions.
GPA:
Unweighted: 3.52
Weighted: 4.18
Trend: Sharp upward trend
Rank:
top 10% - possibly higher, but our school only tells us what tenth we’re in, and i’m in the top tenth.
Course Rigor:
I took the hardest classes my school has to offer - all honors and AP classes. The AP classes are:
AP Government
AP Microeconomics
AP Language and Composition
AP United States History
AP Environmental Science
AP Microeconomics
AP Psychology
AP Calculus AB
AP Biology
AP Literature
Standardized testing:
Haven’t taken anything yet. I was supposed to take an SAT in March, but there was a debate tourney on the same date, so I decided not to take it. I got a 33 on my most recent practice ACT test, and I’m taking it on April 9, 2011. I’m expecting around a 33 on my first attempt, based off of my results from practice tests (they are previous ACT tests released by the company, not private company manufactured). I’m planning on taking it four times, and I’m also taking ACT prep classes at the moment. I’m hoping for a 35-36 on my last try. I have seven months to bring my score up two or three points, and I think that seems like a reasonable goal. My most recent SAT practice score was 2040, but I like the ACT more as of right now.
ECs:
Debate Team - Captain Jr & Sr year (I’m not a senior yet, but the coach already let me know in advance that I’d be the captain for the 2011-2012 year as well)
National Forensics League (Speech and Debate Honor society) - Excellence/Sapphire (Well, the last time I checked I was excellence. Possibly distinction now?)
Newspaper Club - Associate Sports Editor Jr year, coming back Sr year
Tennis - Sophomore year
Volleyball - Freshman year
Football + Wrestling - Freshman and Sophomore year
Roughly 100 volunteer hours at a PADS homeless shelter
3 time participant in the “Relay for Life” Fundraiser to support Victims of Cancer, sponsored by the American Cancer society.
Planning on attending a National Youth Leadership Forum for Law over the summer
Awards:
3rd place at Conference for Lincoln-Douglas Debate
3rd place at ISTA State Tournament for Lincoln-Douglas Debate
All-State Lincoln Douglas Debater @ N</p>
<p>I want to eventually go to law school, and I’m hoping that my ECs demonstrate a specified interest (Debate, the NYLF Law, Newspaper club, Business Law Class).</p>
<p>If there’s anything else you need to know, ask! And I reaaallly want to apply ED, but I don’t know if CMU’s ED works like ND’s - their ED is much a much more competitive applicant pool, and I don’t think my GPA would survive in CMU’s ED pool if it is indeed more competitive.</p>
<p>White male. Top 25% of class, close to top 10%… might be in it. UWGPA 3.85 WGPA 4.15. ACT: Composite 31, math 30, English 32, reading 31, science 31.
