The Cold Hearted Truth: My Chances

Hey, yes im that typical asian guy in highschool who wants to get into a good college. Im a junior and I just have a simple question obviously as you guys can tell: what are my chances? First off, let me introduce myself. Of course, Im that one dude at school who’s lazy and doesn’t desire to study, but don’t let that judge your thoughts toward me. I love UCLA & would be gracious to be admitted into their school. I like basketball, sports, and especially socializing. I spend most of my time either with my friends, sleeping, or doing schoolwork. Lets get into the data though.

GRADES:
I started off bad freshmen year. This was the time when all I did was play games online. Typical Korean. I was taking few honors classes, but other than that nothing much. I got a 3.82 first semester of hs. Then that opened my eyes. I got a 4.17 second semester, close to a 4.33. No one got an A in honors english which sounds ridiculous, but is true. Afterwards, sophomore year I took 2 APs and 2 Honors, got 4.17 both semesters. Got a C in AP Biology first semester, but still got a 4.17. Finally, the first semester of junior year which ended a couple weeks ago, I got a 4.67 GPA taking 4 APs and 1 Honors. Cumulative GPA is 4.18. 10-12 GPA is 4.33. The 10-12 GPA might be the one UCs look at because they apparently don’t check freshmen year.

EXTRACURRICULARS:
Members of around 5-10 clubs
Trying to devise a plan to create a club

SAT:
Taking it this January

Although there may be no other satay other than my GPA, I hope someone can assist me in informing the chances I have to get into colleges, especially UCLA. Please welcome me to any colleges that you think I have a chance of getting into. I love the city life with a lot of people and good neighborhood if that’ll help you guys contemplate. Thank you! Anything is appreciated and I’m open to new colleges/ideas! BTW I want the truth no matter how hard it may be and intellectual responses.

So if admitted to UCLA will this attitude continue? if so you are likely to flunk out despite grade inflation.

We actually have a forum called “What are my chances?” specifically for posts like these - I recommend posting this in there, as you’ll probably get more responses.

Why do you want to attend a highly competitive university if you are lazy and don’t desire to study?

Everyone’s focusing on your laidback demeanor about studying and whatnot, but I’m focused on your stats and ECs: aside from your GPA, you haven’t given us… well, anything. Being a member of 10 clubs is equivalent to putting nothing under the activities section of the application. Colleges look for leadership, positive trends, growth, experience, and achievement. What are your passions? What do you care about? What do you want to major in? What do you want to do with your life? What’s your current interest, career-wise? Figure out which clubs and activities fit those ideas, and become a leader in them, and use that position to do things and generate results. Your laziness is of no importance to me. We’re not here to predict how you’ll do in college, we’re here to tell you your chances at getting in. What concerns me is that you haven’t written anything about what you want to DO.

Calculate your UC GPA at the end of Junior year: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Post UW UC GPA, Capped/weighted UC GPA and Fully Weighted GPA. Also post your test scores since without these, there is no way to gauge your chances. Although GPA and test scores are an important part of the UC admission decisions, schools like to see good HS course rigor, interesting and unique EC’s, leadership and outstanding essays.

Take a look at the Freshman profile and see where you stand at the end of the year and come back with your update.

GPA and test scores of middle 25%-75% students
High School UC GPA: 4.12 - 4.30 (capped/weighted)
ACT Composite Score: 29 - 34
SAT Critical Reading: 620 - 740
SAT Mathematics: 640 - 770
