The Columbia ED Coffee Shop

Hi, my name is William, and I’m from Southern California.

I just submitted part two online; I’ll submit part three tommorrow.

I thought I’d start up this thread as a kind of support-group, to relieve any ED-related anxieties.

Well, I’ll start–on my part two, my personal statement wasn’t actually on the page that read “personal statement.” It was on a white sheet afterward. This is normal right? (You better answer before I get back with my cappucino!)

P.S. The Princeton CC’ers may have invented the “ED Lounge-esque” thread, but we Columbia CC’ers are going to perfect it!

LOLOLOL!!! yes slicker (William), its fine, the essay is suppose to appear on pages that follow.

Just to build on William’s idea, let’s also take this as an opportunity to introduce our real names and just some 411s or interesting tidbits. this way when we ALL get accepted (heh), we can address each other by something more than this virtual name.

My name is Glory Song (creative usernname i know). I’m Chinese/ female. I adore the Houston Rockets. I love kids. my dream is to become a child psychologist. Hmmm… I like hip/hop, poetry…i collect those cool google banners…heh, thats a start. Your turn.

My name is Matt McCarley. I’m a white male seeking…no lol jk. I’m in NFL and I debate. I also love kids, and I want to be something in the medical field with kids. Hip hop all the way. I’m from TX (gotta love it). I like to travel–a lot. I’ve been to Florida, LA, NYC, DC, Ontario, St Paul, Hawaii, Cancun, Puerto Rico, Sydney, Paris, London, and I want to go to Tokyo. I like to run.

Glory Song? That’s a beautiful name.

My name’s Greg Afinogenov. I like postmodern literary theory and history (which is what I want to major in). I listen to…well, as far as anything made after 1995 or so goes, I only listen to underground rap (Aesop Rock, anything on the Anticon label, Sage Francis) and the rest 70s-80s post-punk.

I really need to get into Columbia, because they’re the only school I looked at and liked that cover 100% of need (I’m poor; my mom’s a college professor and, contrary to popular belief, they make jack, money-wise). I simply dream of going to college in New York (NYU’s my second choice). I imagine most of you like that idea too.

Come on, join in.

"I really need to get into Columbia, because they’re the only school I looked at " Lol, me too Greg.

<-----My name is…

Asian male NYC straight unavailable coffee-addicted baconlover.

I like to read. Oh, and I like food.

My name is Chirag Burman, I am involved in scientific research, I also like reading, and watching movies. I also must get into Columbia because it is the only school that I visited that had the environment that I wanted. Oh yes and I also like food, if you see me you ll know what i mean.

my name is priya, from long island, ny. i would choose columbia over harvard yale princeton any day. coffee is good, definitely. yea i love to read also… i like surrealism, lost generation and postmodernism. i want to major in political science or human rights. ooohh and i LOVE to travel also- london is my favorite.

and my application is IN

my name is sam from south florida.I love tv, and movies and books of all sorts. I’m not a compulsive studier like many on these threads ( offense not meant), In fact----I find it very difficult to study at home unless its for a midterm or a final.
I have no idea what I want to major in, I just know its not math or science-related. These are prospects: film studies, psychology, political science (prelaw), english, creative writing, literature

I’m phil…

I visted columbia Overnight and got offered weed by 30 or so people and was asked to drink with them @ the westend. I met 20+ people that didn’t go to class and weren’t planning on it. My roommate fell asleep @ 7AM and woke up at 4. Columbia is great, and although I have no chance, I applied.

oh yea and I am from Queens, NY

I’m Jonathan from Los Angeles. I am a white/male who loves music (preferrably classical or jazz/hip-hop/funk), sports, politics and math. I am a big Dodgers, Lakers and Dolphins fan. I like TV (especially Family Guy) and when making my decision to apply ED to Columbia or SCEA to Stanford, I realized that my summer program experience at Columbia was far superior to that of my Stanford experience…plus Stanford is too country club…I need a laid back atmosphere. Good luck to all of those that applied ED and hopefully we will all see each other in the Fall of '05!!

Jaug–so you think Columbia is more laid-back than Stanford?

Well, I’ve lived on both campuses. I honestly feel that Columbia is more laid back than Stanford. Just my opinion though.

my name’s rajeev, i’m from the bay area (near san francisco) in california. Indian guy (you gotta love the brown people). I love breaking and hip hop dancing, but my favorite music ranges all the genres (i especially love trance/rave). i’m highlighting my hair blue if i get into columbia =).

oh yeah, i’m obsessed with the tv show “scrubs”…SO FUNNY

Is there something about Columbia applicants and liking hip hop?

haha i think hip hops one of the few outlets we nerdy engineering guys have

WOW you guys sound so amazing. It just makes me want to go to Columbia even more. Are you all SEAS guys?

Oh. I am Tiffany. I am an African American gurl from the mean Chicago streets. I love all music (although i am becoming tired of all this f@#!ing indie i keep hearing, I dont listen to mainstrean rap. But I love underground.). Ummmm…I debate (who doesnt?), and my fave TV show is somewhere between the Gilmore Girls and Arrested Development and Family Guy ( I heart FG).

Anyways, you guys sound great. I really hope we all get in. Cant wait to see u on campus.

yea u do gotta love the brown ppl :-)

My name is Ryan. I am white, and a muslim (with dual citizenship to Iran and the US). I live in westchester county (40 min north of Columbia) and my major hobby is cars. I have a Porsche Turbo and a Land Rover, which I hope that I will be able to park in NYC. I have a sister, part of NFL Debate, and a bunch of more odds and ends… Oh, and I was born in Torrance, CA.
