The COUNTDOWN to EA decisions

12 days for 4000 apps? mmmm.
Thats just insane.

Must have one heck of an army of admission officers!

someone in cali got their letter already?

how is that possible?

kath, et al.:

Last year Yale said their decisions would be posted online on Thursday – I thought I remembered them saying the afternoon of Thurs. Decisions were known by Tuesday early morning at the latest. (I found out when I called about something related on Tuesday a.m…) They were actually posted online Wednesday evening. Don’t hold me to that; I’m just passing on what happened last yr.

Friday after school my counselor wrote to the Yale admissions rep. for our area telling him that she had made a mistake on my predicted scores and was wondering if she could send him the corrected version by fax or dhl before the scea decisions were out. He replied saying that they just started reviewing the international applications and that a fax would b ok.
This was Friday…

Wow, that can’t be good news?!

One must hope their app isn’t one of the 30 a tired and bored reader reads at the stroke of midnight who wants to go home and sleep.

Unless reading your application actually puts the guy to sleep. That way, you’re helping the poor, tired soul and he’ll be grateful to you for it ;)…it might just tip the scale in your favor! (or not :p)

elodie you scared me!!! The thought that someone in New Haven is actually still deciding right now whether Yale wants me or not, is unbearable!!! And there’s nothing I can do to change it…

no one is still deciding. i have a friend (who helped out my class enormously, you’ll read his blog if you get in) that works in admissions. when i asked him last night if he know the EA class of 2010 he said “i can’t talk about that”. i.e.- he does know and the committee process is over. now we just wait and see.

“One must hope their app isn’t one of the 30 a tired and bored reader reads at the stroke of midnight who wants to go home and sleep.”

that’s not how it works. as your stuff comes in, they make sort of a … cliffsnotes of your life for your file. once the file’s done (i saw a bunch of rejects on my officer’s desk, they’re like 2-4 pages each) you officer basically stands up in front of the committee in a locked off room (which is actually kind of nice) and pleads your case. the committee members basically do a thumbs up/down thing. when it comes down to the nitty-gritty, one thumbs down can reject you.

EDIT: oh yeah i forgot to mention, they do long sessions, hence getting through the apps so quickly

“When it comes down to the nitty-gritty, one thumbs down can reject you.” ~ edmYale09, that is very scary.

yeah i know. it’s like…Roman emperor type stuff.

i donno wat it means… i was just glad they got my corrected predicted marks in on time…from a 36 (apperently) to a 39…honestly big woop for couselors (grrr)

arghhhhhhhhhhhh

this is so nerve wracking!!!1

no way that cali people have already gotten their letters…please don’t suck me into wishful thinking. On the other hand, edm, the admissions process seems very brutal.

wow edm, that sounds freakin intense… ::bitesnails::

there are definitely decisions still being made. my friend JUST got an email asking to set up an alumni interview … for next week. she had a campus interview in the summer, but they want to do another one. even though decisions are supposed to come out friday. i really don’t understand how yale is managing this year…

wow…seriously what is going on…

i’m sure they’ll have it all figured out by the 15th or 16th.

blivy- that could mean deferral. they’ll probably set up the interview to see if that gives her a lil extra push for the deferral pool.

anyways, like i said there’s the one-thumb sessions- these are the very very last admits. for w/e reason the officer feels very strongly about this person, but other officers don’t. he/she’s trying to convince the committee, hence the last ditch efforts like the interview.
