So I do know that Tulane has a ton of students from the Northeast, and has a pretty liberal vibe. And I know that there are a lot of different types of people. But im just wondering, how much of the students body could be considered “artsy” or “alternative”. Basically, would you find your typical Northeastern small liberal arts school crowd here?

Sorry if this question is oddly phrased, but I just want to know.

S2 hails from the PNW, is a varsity athlete in two sports, holds three black belts in three different arts, plays in a nationally acclaimed jazz band (and will continue to play at Tulane). Is that alternative or artsy, I don’t know? I think it is kind of difficult to characterize a campus of about 6000 undergrads.

Okay, S2 saw my post and as politely as he could explained that I did not understand the question. The reference to “artsy” or “alternative” has to do with lifestyle, dress, hair, music listened to, etc. more than an overriding interest in artistic activities (though I am sure there is considerable overlap). We have quite a few of these folks where we live. As indicated by clothing, hair etc. we saw only a few kids that met the requirements for artsy or alternative. There may be a larger population, but we did not see many.

7th - I’m going to infer from your OP that you live in the Northeast … or at least you are very familiar with the Northeast. New Orleans is different, and many terms have substantially different meaning there. Consequently, I’m not sure your quite general question can be answered. But I’ll try. Is Tulane more “artsy” than Colgate? Absolutely. Wesleyan? Probably not.
