fogfog, some sports are much later to get moving on recruits. Jumper, track and field is notorious for being on the slow side, but still, you should be lining up visits rights now. It’s OK not to have a long-standing history with them, but coaches who really like your numbers should be ready to invite you out for a visit this fall. Send a round of friendly but firm emails stating your interest to your top schools, and be sure to point out both academic and athletic credentials.

^Riverrunner,
Yes, I have been talking to several coaches for months and I have planned some OV with them already. However, a week ago, I received an email from an Ivy school stating their interest and a possible visit…kind of email i0p3de received. I don’t really know what to make of it, only to conclude (sadly) that they have moved down their list of athletes to me since I filled out a questionnaire awhile ago! LOL not to much hope with that school since it is quite competitive in T&F and suppose I’m just another recruit…ehh pessimistic me haha.

^^ I hear you.
Our kiddo has an OV at a top choice,
and then another top choice has already given out their OVs–
Our kiddo “may” hear from them (according to the coach) depending on what happens with the first round OVs.

Personally I know of one Athlete who is going on 4 visits and lets face it–the kiddo can only attend one school. That athlete has a clear choice–and has this clear choice for 4 years–so going to the other OVs is kind of a conundrum–and perhaps more of a distractiopn. I will be interested in what comes of it. The kids first visit has been this week/weekend.

Dont be pessimistic Jumper–just keep casting a wide net.

From what the seasoned parents here write–it’s a long process.
I know of an ahtlete who got lots of OVs after mid Oct last yr–because after the 1st round -there were plenty of roster spots to be filled.

Jumper, don’t assume the worst. If this is a school you’d like to attend, keep the door open by replying to the coach. If the visit distance and timing is not horribly inconvenient for you, I’d say go. You need to have thick skin: just because a coach took a while to find you doesn’t mean he doesn’t think highly of you. Look at it from their point of view: there are thousands of HS athletes for them to sort through in a very limited amount of time. Meet him half way, if this is a program you would be happy to match with.

Jumper,

also remember that Coaches still have to keep the current team running and have duties there. Also, they are all different, some like to delegate and they can accomplish more in a limited time, while others like to do more of it themselves so it can take them longer. Also, sometimes different positions are the priority and must be attended to first… All that and more makes every coaches recruiting different.

Morning

I was looking for a post somewhere here on the athletic recruits forums…the one about the dating, overnights, engagement etc…

ahha found it–it was pacheight’s post…

so
Kiddo did lots of communication and lots of transcript sending etc…willing to fill up the dance card so to speak
Decided on taking OVs at kiddo’s top choices due to heavy schedule etc…so some dating with a few overnights…
Coaches asked if kiddo was ready to commit, and kiddo gave verbal to top choice… Everyone is “excited”…and there are a few more recruits for coaches to meet…
Recent coach call suggests kiddo will get a call mid/late next week…we are hoping with the “formal proposal”…and “ceremony”

as someone here posted, your athlete has nothing til they have something…

How is everyone doing with their dance/dating/proposals?

My daughter is in the same position as your son. Lots of dating, three official visits scheduled and professed the love to top choice, though no proposal yet. She will continue to date until the right match is made, hopefully sooner rather than later!

Proposed to by top choice…just waiting for admissions to verify the marriage and send me a likely!

Nice, JumpHigh! I’d skip the wedding and head straight for the reception :)

Really good news ^^

See you at the Cocktail hour everyone!

JumpHigh: CONGRATULATIONS!!! BRAVO!!! I am so, so happy for you!!! :)

Yay, JumpHigh! How long do you think it will take? Great news :-)

Anyone else? Nothing here - waiting on the two visits coming up, this weekend and next, mainly. Especially next. I think that’s the ONLY weekend for this school, at least it was the only one offered. Hoping it will go well…but looking forward to hearing about everyone else!
