Nothing super new in this article but I thought this was interesting about the final scene:
Hal’s appearance came as a surprise to the many people on set. “In the read-through, that last page was redacted,” Sewell says, adding that his character earned a round of applause that day.
Fun review! I love that they kept Hal’s walkout a secret. It’s interesting that so many articles assume he resigned too. But as we discussed above, that’s not at all certain.
I don’t think so, which is one reason I said upthread that I don’t think he resigned.
This paragraph from the linked article, makes me think that Hal and Miguel didn’t resign but have a plan to get her out.
“No matter what they’ve been through, no matter where their relationship is now, they are in sync with what each other thinks,” Sewell says. “The story of this season is Kate knows he must have some inner master plan. There must be some end game. There must be some counter-narrative, and he won’t share it.”
I just ran into this on a different website but Hal legally could not have resigned. Under 3 U.S.C. § 20, he has to submit a written instrument delivered to the office of the Secretary of State. Since the SOS had just left the building, this could not have happened. It’s unlikely this was all running through Kate’s mind when she made her announcement to the press, but who knows what she knows. She’s a diplomat! It might well be something of which she is aware.
Miguel could have resigned; there is no constitutional or legal requirement. Common practice is to submit a written letter to the President but highly unlikely that happened! And common practice does not seem to be a guiding factor in this show.
Finished watching it yesterday. Was definitely gripping.
Loved the cliffhanger and I think I agree with others here that he’s going to invoke the 25th amendment. I remember the episode when they did this in West Wing for completely different reasons!
Loved the Stuart/Eidra scenes - spot on. The singing in the last episode! The relationship discussion between Hal and Kate was a little much for me - I don’t know that I could keep track of all the nuances there. Was great to see Bradley Whitford as Todd - he portrayed the slightly clueless, putting my foot in my mouth scenes so well. And his discomfort with Grace’s actions - the screaming in the pool!
