The "doable "perfect Package!

THE "DOABLE "PERFECT PACKAGE!

GPA: Mostly As throughout High School with maybe a B out and about. Definitely above a 3.8 unweighted GPA no matter what.

Ranking: Ranked in top 10% is the minimum, there are many schools that have most of their students in the top 10%. You should definitely be in top 5% if you followed the first rule though.

Test Scores: For your ACT get above a 32. Try to get above a 28 in each section. For your SATs get a 750 or more in each section. For writing all you need is a 700 or above since many colleges don’t really care about it. For your subject tests take 3. One science, One Math and One other (Language, Lit, or History). Your scores should demonstrate you and what you want to do. If you are a math and science type, You CAN get above a 750 on both Math an Science so you HAVE to do that. Then just get above a 700 on your other one. If you are more toward the humanities sides you might want to get above a 750 in Lit and History and above a 700 in a science or math. You will also want to take tests for certain subjects like the AMC and try to qualify for AIME.

Classes: Your course load is a very important part of your application. You ALWAYS want to try and take the most difficult course load possible. You should ask your GC what you have to do so that she can tell colleges that you took the most demanding load. Try your best to at least get into either AP calculus or AP stats in your senior year. You want to take as many APs as possible that you can do well in. For example if you take 6 ap classes and you get like 4 Bs and 2 As and you get like 5 3 and 1 4 on the test that’s not good. However if you take like 3 APs and a couple honor classes, and you get 5 As and 1 B and you get 2 4s and a 1 5 (because you had less tests to study for and more time to master each subject) that would be better for you.

5.Teachers: Don’t be a prick. Treat all your classmates with as much respect as possible and suck up to your teachers no matter what anyone says. Stay after class to ask questions about stuff you already know about and try to be as close to them as possible. Even go into each other’s personal lives a little bit. Your teacher recommendation really show Admission committees how you are as a person in the classroom and will help your APPs out big time. It will also help you learn more for the class.

Extracurricular Activities: This is basically everything you do that doesn’t have a Grade point attached to it. As a student it is always a good thing to be part of a group. Whether your a jock or whatever, it is better to have a cliche than to have no-one. If you love sports, play all the sports you can and still do well in school. If you are a science geek join your school’s science club and math club and all that stuff. Enter into certain talent searches like Intel and Siemens. If you are a writer join the Newspaper and literary magazine. Do everything you can in your specific field in order to do improve yourself. Always try and compete. You can do it so don’t be lazy and chill back and watch the Gilmore Girls wishing you can be like Rory. Do something with your life.

Community service. serve your community. They give to you so you should give back. on average try and do some thing for a couple hours every week. In the end it will translate into hundreds of hours of service and you will feel good about yourself.

Family: Have a good relationship with your family because it really helps out when you have a great support system to surround you.

Apply: Write great Essays and you are a sure bet to get into your dream school.

GOOD LUCK: Trust me, you’re still gonna need it.

I’m a rising senior and i truly don’t know anything. I just thought it would help some peeps out. Please don’t give me crap about this because i really don’t care about what you think.

I don’t see why anyone would give you any trouble about this. It’s very sound, good basic advice, from what I see.

I’d say I fit every aspect of your perfect package…except maybe 5 lol. I slack too much in class

but ye looks good. Does 750 really equal 32? I dont know much about the ACT…

GPA is my oh-so-excellent doom. The perils of mock trial and apathy towards certain subjects…

shouldn’t the rank be more important than the gpa

is that ranked from most to least improtant? He puts essays 9th…so i dunno. I just assumed it was a random list with no particular order

My scores suck… not all are 750+…

It’s just a list… Not everything numbered is a ranking.

yea, it’s just a list… and No, a 32 doesn’t really equal straight 750s but whatever.

No offense but the list seems rather contrived. By no means do you need to suck up to your teachers to get great recs.

If I were to rank his list in order of importance it would probably be:

Test scores
Rank
GPA/Classes
EC’s
Essays
Comm Service
Teacher Recs

I think rank and GPA/classes are more important than test scores.

National awards such as olympiads and Siemens etc. are pretty big. I think they’re more important than SAT or GPA.

none of you know, so…

Hi, I’m new here.
I think this is a very nice list. I’ll probably compare and see what I’m lacking, then work on those.

YEA, at least i helped one person out.

Yeah so i took 3 sat IIs: Us history, lit and spanish. Do i need to take a math or science?? i did well on all three of those, 780, 770, 780 so … is it bad to avoid math and science?

You might want to try and do at least a math…

That all sounded really good, but the SAT scores of 750+ were a little scary. I got a 34 ACT, but my ACT was only 2120 with 650 math, 750 reading, and 720 writing.
