The dreaded swimsuit shopping experience

Ok, so I went to Macy’s today. I’d like to find another bathing suit or two, I’m really tired of mine and have them for years…use them all the time. It’s a dreadful experience, but I’ve been working out and eating healthier and feel, much better than last year at this time.

So, my favorite bathing suit is a monokini. It’s so sexy and elegant at the same time. But totally unrealistic, as it’s not made to really lay out in, and all the weird tan lines that would be made with the cutouts and straps and mesh. I’m really not sure where someone would wear this unless that were in Monte Carlo walking around in heels and a large big brim black hat. But I want it! Haha! It seems a lot of these really cool one pieces and monokinis are so fashionable, but are made to be worn in the shade! But I love them, and I hate one pieces on me and only buy two piece suits.

Anyway, I’m not sure what the point of my post is other than to complain that my favorite suits are totally unrealistic. I’m not a sun worshipper, but I still get tan just laying under an umbrella and walking the beach. Don’t want weird lines.

Can you post a link to one of the suits (monokini) that you like???

I had to google “monokini”. Laws a mercy!

You and I are living in very different worlds.

The ones I saw in Google Images when I googled "monokini’ weren’t exactly sexy and elegant at the same time. @-) Can you post a link to the kind you’re talking about?

Ok I had to google it too. Looking forward to endless swimsuit banner ads for the next 3 months…thanks Google…

I would not wear one but if you have the body/comfort to wear one, why not? There are certainly different levels of cutouts, straps, etc. If it fits right couldn’t you lay in the sun in one??? Would you swim in this suit??? No matter what suit you wear you will have tan lines!

If I’m on a beach, then I’M planning to go in the water! I’m going to also walk that beach. Maybe throw a stick and play with my dog. So I want a suit that I’m basically comfortable doing these active things in AND that I’m comfortable wearing around my family - and even more, around random people I might meet/be around on the beach!

I think it also depends on your beach. A nicer resort, or a family beach. A public beach or a private beach. Or pool.

Looked up images and love it. It looks like a lot of fun.
It seems that it depends on what other clothes you like to wear in the warm weather.
I always wear tanks and a swimsuit with similar necks and backs so that I do not have the
lines. If most of the strap lines are on your torso perhaps the lines won’t interfere with other clothes.

Comfort and function and style are all the way for me. Prima Donna bikini separates fit that bill for me. There is nothing sexy about dangling wet fabric and bottoms/tops that need to be adjusted all the time. PD suits are designed for women’s bodies that like to be active in the water.

@conmama ,Congratulations for being in excellent shape for a monokini !

And very different bodies. :open_mouth: And fo people still “lay out” these days? I try to get enough sun for vitamin D to absorb, but would never sunbathe like we used to as teens. Even if I had the body for a monokoni!

I don’t shop for swimsuits anymore, I shop for coverups! Lol

And here I am browsing swim shirts.

Wowza!! More power to anyone in our age group who can wear those. I’m more of a long tankini top with long shorts gal.

You mean, like this one??

Yeah, let’s not diss anyone who looks forward to purchasing and wearing a new swimsuit. No matter what size or shape their body is.

(and I most certainly spend LOTS of time “sunbathing”! With protection but with glee as well!)

@VeryHappy …yep that’s the one! Haha. Let me say I’ve never tried on monokinis before. There are actually so many different styles of them. I like the ones that look like a cross between a two piece and one piece. Sort of the best of both worlds.

I switched over to board shorts and rash guard shirts to minimize UV exposure and then realized I’m allergic to cold water (get itchy, uncomfortable full-body hives). My swimwear languishes in my dresser now. :(. I do have some more modest 2 piece suits.

After buying a house with a pool in San Diego, I finally got up the nerve to buy a new suit. I found a great fitting Tommy Bahama top at Nordstrom Rack that worked with a skirted bottom I already had. I am willing to wear it in public. I liked it so much that I bought a Tommy Bahama bikini online. That one only gets worn in the privacy of the back yard and only in front of my husband. My stomach has a tan for the first time in decades.

Then when a new Marshall’s opened nearby, I found a nice one piece that matches the pool tile coloring.

I had a vitamin D deficiency in Illinois. I don’t have one now!

Lands End sells monokinis. Who would have thought?
