The dreaded swimsuit shopping experience

Completely forgot. Target! Great suits. For all shapes of bodies.

I’m laughing at how many of us will be stopping and looking over the swimsuit racks now. I had to stop in SteinMart (reluctantly, I don’t like that store!) and I did beeline over to the swimsuits. Apparently their customer is only interested in one pieces or tankinis because that is all they had!

“How many others are uncomfortable with halter neck suits? One of my problems had been finding suits with regular straps. I really hate that knot against the back of my neck so don’t look at that style.”

I found a suit that I really liked, except for the halter top with annoying knot. When I couldn’t find something I liked any better, I decided to buy it and alter the tie straps with a loop on one strap and a swimsuit hook fastener on the other strap. No more knot!

coralbrook, best post of the day.
D just bought a bathing suit at Target today. She is 3.5 month pg and just bought a size up.
It is a well made suit and I will be buying the same suit tomorrow, I hope.
Sadly same size and I am not pg :((

Inspired by this thread. I went to REI. Bought a Burkini Prana top and Carve designs boy swim bottoms for women.
Nice match. Tried the tights Prana bottom but just too much coverage, but an interesting choice.

A local swimsuit store has their big sale in August. The saleswomen are incredible.,they look at your body and bring you suits that fit.

Count me as another swimmer like @Momofadult who just has her Speedo. Not sure I see a reason for anything else. I want to be ready for a swim. Last exotic vacation I took was to Greek isles that I took with other swimmers and we swam 5-6 K/day.

For anyone who might like the vintage look, this company has fantastic suits! And made in the USA! I am linking the one I ordered and it fits perfectly and is gorgeous!

That is adorable! I love sweetheart necklines, I find them flattering on all bust sizes. Well, I went back to Macys to try on that monokini again. I’m glad I did not get it. The medium was too short, could have used a little more material in the behind! The large was too long and the bust too huge. I tried on a bunch more beautiful and different one pieces, and it was the exact same issue except one! This is why I wear 2 pieces. Anyway, I would have bought the one that was very attractive but it was in that crochet material. So heavy feeling in the summer, but it sure did look good on me. I ended up ordering another 2 piece. I loved the pattern and the top part had pretty folds and fit well. The bottom was one of those bikinis that folds over at the top.

Here is the one I would have worn just laying at the pool, in the shade, with a drink at a resort. Or maybe parading in the south of France in high heels and a huge hat. The colors were sort of metallic and shimmered. You can’t tell from the picture.

Here is one that looked terrific! But either too short or too long…grrrr. It was just enough sexy. I would have wanted the red.

Here’s the white crochet. Also, what’s up with those velvet bathing suits I see all over? This suit was much, much more attractive on than in the picture.

@conmama that crochet one is super cute!

I am so glad to see that swimsuits are now available in a larger array of cute styles that will look good on a larger number of body types and folks who are not kids or teens.

You lead a very different life than I do.

That’s the life of my dreams, not reality. Although I did go to a nice hotel resort last year at this time and could have worn it.

Considering we have a loved one who is a dermatologist, we all shun the sun and swimsuits and swim shorts are not something we normally spend on. It’s a pity, since we have great weather and beaches.

I love the crochet one also. It’s unique

The ties in the back ruin it for me. I just can’t see how on earth I would be able to get in this suit quickly. Otherwise, it is a nice one piece suit.

I am also not a fan of white or light colors—they are transparent when wet. I would expect suits to get wet.

When we were in the south of France (including St. Tropez) so of the women didn’t even bother with bathing suits! :)) :))

I have been going to all inclusive beach resorts every winter for the last 6 years or so. I see all body types and suits on the beach. I do not see mostly two piece suits on older woman but do on younger woman. I’ve noticed that when I see a larger woman in a bikini or two piece, when I hear them speak it is not in English or maybe British English. But not always, of course.

I’m going to the south of France this summer and I will be with my very thin 30 year old D1, her partner and H. I will NOT be naked on the beach. 35 years ago, probably. Haha. Now I am uncomfortable in a bathing suit because I have a belly that I have never been able to get rid of after 3 c-sections. I’m 64. Not sure what to wear. But I would probably scare everyone off the beach if I wore a monokini.

A little late/last minute but after emptying out my inbox for the past few days I see that Athleta has 20% off swimwear through today.
