The Duck Metaphor

Ever heard of the duck seemingly taking its ease paddling across a pond, while beneath the water’s surface it is paddling furiously?

Honestly, I can’t stand how some of my classmates must always emphasize how they did not do any work and slacked off in the course while getting a great grade. The loudness of their boasting increases especially when they do well compared to the majority of the class or when they’re talking to someone who didn’t do as well.
It just ticks me off cause I messed up big time on a test because of the tricky questions my teachers like to put on, and afterwards I have to hear all these kids boasting about how they didn’t study at all (so I guess they were born with AP Chem/Bio/Calc in their brains).
One of my classmates always like to say that he messed up his multiple choice bubbles and that is the reason he got 6 questions wrong in a row… blah blah blah.

Yeah I just felt like venting. We humans are so vain.

tis societies fault.

the constant competition: my horse is bigger than your horse.

Oh man, do I hate the duck metaphor. Ducks don’t actually paddle furiously at all; they often sleep on the water, for Pete’s sake. And if they do paddle furiously beneath the water, it’s obvious from looking at the above-water part that they’re doing so. The person who invented that analogy clearly didn’t know anything about waterfowl.
