I don’t watch the Duggars show because they creep me out, but I saw a commercial for the show that showed them shopping for a “renewal of vows” wedding dress at Kleinfelds, so I had to watch. (I don’t know if this was a rerun or not.) I guess they were in NY to appear on Mike Huckabee’s show and the TLC people who do “Say Yes to the Dress” found out and asked if they’d like to shop there.

The whole crew (including married son and DIL) was there. LOL looking for “modest dresses”…the mom kept a high necked shirt on even when trying on dresses that showed about an inch of the chest. I guess the most creepy part is when the husband AND oldest son were telling the employee what the dress should be like - they wanted puffy sleeves and the Kleinfelds lady told them they would not find a puffy sleeve in the store.

I bet Kleinfelds about died making the final product (except that a sale is a sale)…they took a nice dress that went down about three inches below the neck (well above the line for cleavage) and added a whole lot of fabric in the front and back to make it high cut…there were also littly poofy sleeves.

She could have come to my house, and I would have sold her my dress…you know the 1988 model, ivory satin, alsacian lace, pearl beading, victorian style with a 10 foot train. DD has already said no way she would wear it, and if she did, the dress I gave her would look nothing like it as she walked down the aisle. Think 27 dresses movie!

I saw just a few minutes of this last night - when they were in Kleinfeld’s and when the dress box appeared at their doorway and the little Duggars were beating the heck out of it…!

The thing was, I thought the whole situation was uncomfortable for everyone. The staff seemed tentative about finding a dress that could meet her needs - the alterations she required really meant totally changing the look of a dress. The Duggar family seemed uncomfortable being there - yeah, all those guys among all those young women trying on dresses.

I would have thought with their “thriftyness” that they might have considered reusing Michelle’s original dress somehow.

Like I said, I only caught a few minutes, but the dress I saw her in just didn’t seem to do much for her at all. She emphasized during the show that the goal should be for people to focus NOT on the dress, but on the face - which I get - but also a not-so-good looking dress might be distracting too.

Kind of an ironic note - Michelle said that in the midst of when they were planning all this, they found out they were pregnant with #19 - that just strikes me as kind of funny.
I think the renewal of the vows is next episode???

I think she said she was a different size 18 kids ago. But for TLC, I bet they would have shopped Goodwill or a resale shop or had one made…

I was sort of suspicious about the time frame…the *Say Yes to the Dress * producer somehow found out they were renewing their vows…how did they find out?

And I assume that their show’s producers wanted the ENTIRE family there…with all the older kids used to babysitting, it would have been a great activity for just Michelle, the teen Ds and the DIL…I bet either the husband (Jim Bob?) insisted on coming, or the show’s producer insisted on the whole gang.

I would have LOVED it if Randy from Kleinfelds had advised Michelle…a Randy/Jim Bob encounter would have been great.

Yeah, I figured she wasn’t the same size anymore, but if they can alter the top of the dress, I figure they could alter/add material to the original dress!!1

I keep thinking about J &K +8, it seems like they are getting caught up in the freebies that come with this. Maybe not so much for the parents, but I wonder about the kids, here they have had this thrifty life, and now they are going to places like DC and NYC and seeing the perks that this show gives them.

I am sure that the gown was for free, just because of the advertisement for Kleinfields. Wondering if the son and his wife might get a spin off.

I think the first dress we saw on her was one of those…it had 3/4 sleeves and the neckline was about an inch and a half below the neck bone…too immodest for Michelle. (Wouldn’t the orthodox Jewish brides love to know that their dresses are immodest!?) I think that Michelle wanted a dress that didn’t even show the neck bone…not a tiny bit of chest but zero chest.

I agree, K’s does not need the publicity. Even back when I got married, it was reknown, I remember going to one of the sales with my Mom and MIL (I had my dress not from there, but they were looking for theirs). The strange thing is the store did not open until 6 pm, and yes, there was a line around the block. In the end neither Mom found anything, so it was a 2 hr drive both ways for nothing :p.

To me, I think TLC wanted this…just like Kate had an amazing cake crossover episode with the bakery in Baltimore. It’s not like Kleinfelds is going to say no to TLC for the price of 1 dress.

I thought it was funny that Michelle was getting a long white dress after almost 19 kids. I thought the alterations made the dress ugly and she looked ridiculous with the long sleeves on under every dress she tried on. I usually don’t watch either but my daughter told me it was at Kleinfeld’s so I couldn’t resist.

I’m all for women and girls not dressing like prostitutes, but I think the “extreme modesty” is rather ironic…I think it calls more attention to the girl than they’d otherwise receive…you see a girl in a plain top and normal fitting jeans and you don’t look twice. But you see a girl in a plain top, skirt down to the ground and hair that has never been cut and you stare.

Same with Michelle…she’ll have more stares at her chest to see where the extra fabric has been added than if she’d just gone with a dress with a regular neckline.

I find the whole idea of a “renewing your vows” thing icky, and I find it even ickier when it involves dressing like a bride. I’ve never seen the show–or Jon & Kate–and I just don’t get the attraction.
