while i do sometimes say “if you don’t get in, i will cut off my right hand,” not for you. just competitive enough to keep you sweating until decision comes

Bob, i read an official stanford press release that said it may be harder to get in EA because they want to be sure that the student will get in RD, so its not significantly easier, the pool is just more self selective

We’re not telling you whether you can get in or not. And if anyone does, or says anything like that, then you should be smart enough to know that Stanford is hard enough to get into that no one is a sure bet.

Bob: The rec will help, and I don’t think you need to completely retake the test, but make sure not to give them any other reason to doubt your writing ability. A SAT writing score by itself probably won’t hurt you all that much, but it in conjunction with, say, a poorly written essay or short answer might, so get someone with a very critical eye to read over all the stuff you have to write for your application.

As far as colleges are concerned… you have a 1580.
If u r applying to Stanford’s engineering school… I would say that ur chances are pretty good for early.

We recently attended an evening meeting with representatives from Stanford, Harvard, Duke, UPenn and a 5th school in DC.

When asked about the writing portion of the SAT: they all said that their admissions offices are not yet paying any attention to the scores from the writing essay portion of the SAT. That it’s too new so they don’t have enough history with it to see what the scores mean etc etc etc
