Unfortunately, my “life of the mind” requires me to shovel the car out (twice, because the snowplow WILL come back through for a second pass), make my typically one hour commute at slower speeds on slippery roads, make adjustments all day due to personnel absences caused by weather, and make that same commute again as the roads refreeze at nightfall. And that’s not counting the constant checking of the forecast just in case there are delays or closings.
The good news is when you retire you no longer have to drive in the snow. The bad news is now your kids do and you have lots of free time to worry about them getting to work or getting home safely in the snow and ice.
Yesterday was disgustingly hot and humid. Then sometime sfter midnight we got rain and it became very windy. Woke up today to beautiful sunshine and dry air and only in the upper 70’s. Just glorious!!!
I love September and October, but the trade off for better weather is shorter days. I always feel a little melancholy when the U.S. Open is over as that’s my personal last day of summer. It often feels like finishing a really good book - you look forward to new things, but you miss the summer journey.
emilybee–we had the same weather last night. Woke up to a glorious sunshiny day and lots of downed tree branches, some large, and other debris.
^ same. Lots of branches down in my yard (and all over) but on our walk this afternoon we saw a huge tree that was toppled around the corner from us.
