the essays/phi theta kappa?

i’m applying as a junior transfer to usc for fall 10, and i’m at the essays part of the application.

are the essays really that important? i don’t really feel like anything i would say to any of the topics would be interesting, unless i maybe stretched the truth a little bit.

also… i’m about to be inducted to phi theta kappa, does usc care about this? or is phi theta kappa really nothing special?

Pay attention to the essay. I know somebody with 3.8 GPA from a CSU that was rejected last year. From what I’ve heard, his essay was horrible.

Essays are important. There’s an entire section on essays on the forums so I’d suggest going and reading it. The essay is your chance to tell your personal story, who you are, extra curriculars you are passionate about, why you want to go to USC or whatever school etc.

Although it is mostly speculation, a great essay can give you that boost over someone with similar gpa/stats where as a bad essay with a boring story and bad grammar can sink your application.

my essay/personal statement rocked - talked about my interactions with successful usc alumni
i got into marshall with just under a 3.6 :O
