I mailed in my application to HSHSP on Thursday, one day before the deadline date. The Postal Service retunred my mail two days later. The reason. I covered my stamps with tape. Yet I covered other stamps with tape too and they were mailed. Now I miss the deadline just because of that.

yeah I was really concerned about the stamps falling off because an adhesive with my nametag did fall off once.

Has anyone else had negative experiences with the USPS?

Well one time (this was a long time ago, I just read an article about it) my whole school’s Intel submissions (or something of the sort) ended up in Ohio instead of Washington, DC. Luckily, phone calls were made and an extension on a deadline was given.

As for me personally, worse I’ve had is really crumpled mail arriving two weeks late.

I got a mail from the US Military Academy today about their Summer Seminar at West Point. I had gotten one from the Navy months ago and applied. I wondered why the West Point brochure came so late.

What you should do simfish is ask for an extension on your application. I’m sure that most programs are really nice and they know that sometimes things like that happen. Just tell the HSHSP that USPS sent your stuff back due to a mistake with the postage. Most likely they will understand and still take it even after the deadline.

Zoogies - That depends. A lot of institutions do not mail out their letters/brochures right away. I’ve received things two months late because the organization did not send them out right away. It is not necessarily a problem with USPS - though it might be.

Thanks for the advice, Ladros. There was some adhesive with the words “stamp void when covered, defaced, or originally postmarked” and I kept it on when I mailed the envelope with new stamps again. Hopefully, it’ll work out.
