The faces of Northwestern

Somebody told me Northwestern students are a cross between Duke and Brown. Athletic and Greek-oriented yet also chill and free-spirited. Is that accurate? Whenever I think of NU, the image I have are of its graduates (Zach Braff, David Schwimmer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus among them) and Northwestern fictional characters (the guy they’re fighting over in Mean Girls, Jennifer Aniston’s love interest in The Breakup, Jennifer Garner in Felicity, Buffy who applied to NU as well as George Lopez’s daughter, the twins in Beverly Hills 90210 and Moesha).

There have been more than enough threads on the Northwestern “type”.

Suffice it to say NU exists at the boundary between Ivy League academics and social/Greek/school-spirited/athletic-minded Big 10.

The school is super diverse in terms of the student body (journalists, engineers, theater, social sciences etc.), the institutions (Big 10 athletics, myriad research opportunities, theater shows), and the environment (campus, Evanston as a vibrant college town, Chicago as a world-class city).

The details have been belabored in previous threads. Other than that, I think pinning down a “typical NU student” is somewhere between obnoxiously arrogant and remarkably futile.

This is a REALLY nice quote, cerebralassassin. Please feel free to use it elsewhere :-)

Moesha… My day is now brighter…

Oh yeah, Mean Girls was set in the North Shore…maybe Evanston even? I remember Lindsay Lohan mentioning at the end the dude was going to Northwestern.

On an extremely trivial note, there was a dude wearing a Northwestern shirt in that movie Valentine’s Day haha. Maybe one of the producers is an NU alumna and wanted to slip some purple pride in.

^ Yeah, it was set in Evanston.

Also, Michael Weston (I think that’s his name?) who plays Lucas on House M.D. graduated from NU.

And another fictional character that went to NU is Harry’s ex-wife from When Harry Met Sally. Just thought I’d throw that in, as long as we’re talking about trivial references to NU in movies. :P

I saw David Schwimmer at the Apple Store randomly giving a talk while I was trying to get my computer repaired (didn’t know he was going to be there). Our eyes locked and my heart literally skipped a beat. I felt so special lol. He didn’t know I was an NU student either.
