The future king of England has been born!

musicamusica, 3 of my 4 grandparents were British, the 4th was Swedish. It’s interesting and historical. I’m always happy to hear about the birth of a well loved and anticipated baby, royal or not.

musica, I’m half-English (my father is from a working-class family in London) with English roots on my mom’s side too. I’m also a huge history buff. It has nothing to do with royal obsession–I just find the rituals and customs fascinating, as coureur put it very well. I am not Catholic but loved the drama over the selection of the new pope (black smoke/white smoke) too.

It’s harmless, it’s pleasant, and it’s a tradition. As an American, I am not affected by the fact that it might be better for the Brits to give the Royal Family the old heave-ho. I’m not sure if that’s even correct, and I don’t care.I don’t see an obsession, just an interest. Maybe when Diana was around, but that whole story was pretty interesting, and it was the 80’s after all. My kids and I stayed up for William and Kate’s wedding, and we laughed at the hats, and had a swell time. And Kate is beautiful, and I like looking at beautiful people. And once the monarchy is gone, it will truly be gone, and I think we’ll miss it.

Well, everybody is “born into a certain family.” No way around it.

Right. William can’t help being born into the royal family, but he has spent most of his life in public service. Kate was born into a family who worked their way up from more modest origins–her parents are self-made millionaires. Seems like you should like that, geeps.

William and Kate both seem like very genuinely good people.
Now, they could be really good at faking it or they can be genuinely good people (I’m choosing to believe the latter).
I like when genuinely good people have a wanted, loved baby. I think that baby is going to have fantastic parents and I hope he continues the good works that his parents and grandmother did.

^ good people have wanted loved baby every day by the thousands…I don’t see anything special in this birth…

musica…to answer your question…most of the time…lol

musicamusica, I just want it on the record that I am only fascinated by the fascinators.

I think my opinions on this have been forged by my family. Left wing working class folks who intentionally escaped “all that”. I do not find royal entitlement romantic. Never have.
In fact every time a Windsor, the Queen, Phillip, Charles, even the new couple have visited Southern California they invariably take advantage of a photo op at a certain British institution only two blocks from my house. In short…to keep things polite, I have never bothered to make the 4 minute stroll down the hill. ;)

Besides…it’s a 1776 thing as well. Some of you understand, I’m sure.
Of course S Colbert nailed it last week:

<a href=“The Colbert Report - TV Series | Comedy Central US”>The Colbert Report - TV Series | Comedy Central US;

And I doubt you and your ancestors have truly escaped “all that” here. Kids here benefit from legacy, their parents’ position, the way they started out in life.
I like Colbert. I’m sure he would wish all the best for the new family.

And Hillary Scott (***Lady *** Antebellum… isn’t that ironic… sort of ?)
had a baby girl today!!! Eisele Kaye Tyrrell :D

That name looks so much prettier written out than said.

sevmom–no one really escapes ones circumstances of birth. One can only try. I thank god he and grandma left and made their way here. In the 20’s the British class system was something to be reckoned with. One just did not strive above ones station in life. Not the done thing.
Sorry that you do not appreciate that.

NJRES now that’s news! How does one pronounce Eisele???

Ice-lee…

man was I off

Everybody here left something behind in Europe or elsewhere to be here. I certainly "appreciate that. " My ancestors are Scottish and English primarily so I certainly know about Britain and class issues. If you do not think that class issues don’t exist in America, you are kidding yourself. And I would guess the southern California music and acting scene has it’s own caste system as well. But , right now, I’m just happy to think about a healthy boy that has been born today.

I do find it really hilarious how fascinated Americans and the American media are with the British Royals. Didn’t you once fight a big war just to be rid of them? Now they are the most fashionable celebrities in the world. I really wish I could dig up George Washington and bring him to life just to see his horrified expression when he tunes to see into the Royal Baby-watch updates on CNN.

Its probably due to everyone being brought up on Disney Princess movies.

Some expert said that if they’ve already decided on the names, it will probably be announced tomorrow around the time they leave the hospital. If not, then who knows.

William is apparently spending the night at the hospital with his new little family. I think that’s great.

that would be a great name for a rapper! LOL, but I read it was pronounced “Eyes Lee” I think like the Isley Brothers. It’s a made up name, Eisele, so they can pronounce it any way they want.
