Congratulations to all!

All I can say is, he has a long line in front of him. Take a number! :D

O/P

He may in the line of succession but there is never a guarantee that anyone will be the “future king of England.”

But mozel tov nonetheless. ;)

He will actually be King of Great Britain, not just England. :)

"never a guarantee that anyone will be the “future king of England.”

let’s hope so…I am so sick of this “news”, I could scream. Let’s leave the “divine rights of kings” in the past, where it belongs. UGH

^ I agree…so boring…what’s so impressive about someone being born into a certain family thus being perceived as in some way being special? I guess I will never get the “royal” family fascination.

8 pounds, 6 ounces sounds a nice healthy size–larger than either of my kids at birth.

Would anyone care to expound on the fascination for the royal family? Both of my maternal grandparents were British. They would have been horrified by it. Above and beyond our cultures fascination for celebrities… I really truly do not “get it.”

I’m no Anglophile. It’s a new baby! Who doesn’t love a new baby? They seem like a couple truly in love so yea for them.

I’m not particularly interested in the royal family, but I am interested in Kate-- mainly just for her fashion sense. I have a mild interest in Kate and a general interest in all things new baby. Look down your nose at me all you want, you’re the one who opened a thread you’re not interested in.

musicamusica. Your grandmothers would have been horrified by what aspect?

I am British- my living grandmother is happy for the young couple. I think most Brits see this as a happy event.

I think its wonderful and I am so happy for William and Kate. Sad that Diana is not here to see her grandchild.

…why are people fascinated with the Kardashians? Life is crazy…I kinda like minding my own business…I don’t even read the National Enquirer.

As always, have to laugh at posters who hate the subject but open the thread…and then comment on it. :)

I’d rather hear about two young members of the British royal family who seem like decent people and do a lot of charitable work than the Kardashians or the latest athlete getting busted for drugs or sexual assault.

I’m happy for them–they seem like a good couple who will be loving parents. It’s nice to have some pleasant news for a change!
Our oldest S just turned 25 a couple days ago–we got out his baby pictures, had some laughs and some tears. Nothing more fascinating than your first child! I was thinking of Kate, and am sympathetic to any woman who is going through labor–especially for the first time, especially if she is overdue (not sure if she was or not, but there was some speculation about that.)
Not a drop of English blood in me, but I still take a mild interest in the royal family. Got up and watched the royal wedding, was waiting for news about the baby, etc. . .I just like weddings and babies, I guess :)

Me, too.

I’m happy for William and Kate and glad that mom and baby are doing well.

Sally—my grandparents came to the US in the 20’s because they knew that there were more opportunities in California for a working class fellow like my grand dad. They despised the class system in the UK. Yes they did not worship royalty and would be horrified by the American obsession with the entitled Windsors. Of course the birth is a happy event for a young couple, a reason to celebrate if you are British and buy into that -----but what I am questioning is the logic or lack of logic behind the American obsession with British royalty.

Personally I don’t want to hear about the Windsors (who are as dysfunctional a family as they come) or the Kardashians. I do not see it as one or the other.

For me, and I’ve never been a royal watcher and really believed Diana had some major personality disorder… with all the yucky news out there, here is this beautiful young couple, the fairy tale. And Kate seems so steady, serene, a lovely polished young woman. And it appears William and she are in love. It’s just nice to see such happy, uncomplicated news. It’s just interesting to me to see with the long line of history behind it. I also loved The Kings Speech - I hope they name the baby George after him.

I don’t care very much at all about the personal lives of the royals, but I will admit to getting interested in big royal events: coronations, investitures, weddings, births of mainline heirs, and major ceremonies of one sort or another.

I think I find them interesting for their historical/cultural context. I enjoy watching ancient ceremonies or events being reenacted. Kinda like the election of a new Pope. I’m not Catholic, and I have little interest in who gets elected, but I do want to watch the ancient election process and coronation of the new pope. Similarly, I’m not British. Whoever is or isn’t the British monarch has zero effect on me, but I like watching a thousand-year-old drama being played out once again in this generation.

My mom’s two oldest brothers were born British in England (obviously lol) and primarily raised in England. My mom was born in Spain but was raised partially in England and partially here. My grandma never really wanted to leave England but my grandfather was American and so off to America they went after the war. She loved England dearly and she and my mom went back often.

My mother was a huge Princess Diana fan. I remember distinctly watching her cry and cry after news of her death.

Needless to say, our family has been on babywatch- both those here and my family that’s still in England. I’m happy to see the happy couple welcome a new bundle of joy into the world.

I don’t understand WHY people get so upset about things they don’t care about. If you don’t want to hear about something, walk away. Personally, I can’t stand NASCAR, tennis, or the Kardashians so when that comes up, I change the channel or go to another page. Seems so much easier :)
