<p>I was just wondering if anyone could tell me more about this. Im SEAS '11 and deciding my living situation right now and am wondering how this program would compare with say, Carman dorms (since the is currently my 1st pick). Thanks.</p>

<p>2) search that forum for a big long thread about housing, it has all the info you will ever need about the housing itself</p>
<p>3) in regards to the actual program, Denzera has said a few times that its been called the “worst housing decision ever made” or something similar.</p>
<p>most people i know dont consider the program to be a pro as opposed to having it be a con associated with hartley/wallach</p>
<p>Can someone post a description of this thing? I like to be informed, and I’ve never heard of it. It sounds lame from the title of it.</p>

<p>Yeah, a couple commas, and prepositions are off into his statements, but he is an engineer so proper grammar isn’t necessary 
Anyway, i guess im asking if a normal dorm like Carman or John Jay is in any way troublesome for a columbia engineering freshman. I mean, will i be able to make friends and do problem sets with other engineers, or will i be surrounded by all CC kids who enjoy their liberal arts grade inflation ;)</p>
<p>I was in H-W freshman year before the LLC started. We actually had more engineers than CC kids in our suite. If you’re in Carman or JJ, you’re still going to have a lot of engineers on your floor. SEAS is 20-25% of the kids, right? So, you’ll have 10 engineers on your floor on average.</p>

<p>we are still 1/5th of the population here. jj/carman floors are ~45 people so there are at least 8 seas kid on your floor. plus you do meet and make friends with people in class so its a moot point. </p>
<p>besides, gateway is a class you’ll have a good chance of loathing…personally i wouldnt want to be more connected with my group…</p>
<p>rule of thumb - anything having to do with gateway = horrible</p>

<p>Why does SEAS spend so much money funding – and so much effort marketing – a horrible class that everyone hates? Every time one of my interviewees mentions Gateway as something they’re interested in / heard about / etc., I want to cringe.</p>

<p>My freshman year, he was all business. Come in every day in a suit and tie and lecture about team process and project management and a lot of schlock. It was seriously like something out of Dilbert. At least the modeling software was kinda cool.</p>
<p>As for this housing initiative, don’t bother, is my advice. Go with Carman or JJ. Or maybe furnald if you really want a nice building with sweet floor lounges and don’t care much about the social atmosphere.</p>

anyways, its common knowledge that gateway gets worse and worse. llc progam with gateway for the most part is being used for sophmore engineers to get a single…s i’ve heard.</p>

<p>It’s not just Jack. We had some guy named Mark. There was some guy after Mark and before Jack. This Mark guy was a punk.</p>
<p>Everyone hated Gateway long before Jack taught it, so the problem is larger than him.</p>
<p>yes jack is a ■■■■■■. matlab is pointless (unless you major in comp related field). BUt maya is fantabulistic.<br>
but you would be suprised how practical the skills you learn in that class is once you start working.
the Gateway residential initiative is a plan to get a bunch of groups that work together on a community project to live together.
what you get is a group of 5-6 engineers living in a suite of about a total of 18-25 people.
its great when you need to make a midterm report and group presentation the day before its due.
it sucks you see the same peopel SOOOOO much.</p>
<p>i think its important to note that working with the people you live with (and will most likely be the first set of friends you make on campus) is not such a great thing.</p>
<p>for example, by chance a friend of a friend (who i happen to like as a person and as a friend) and i were placed in the same group. i learned a lot more about this person than i wanted to in things like work habits and where this person’s priorities were…</p>
<p>i still like this person and we’ll continue to be friends but i hope to never have to deal with him/her in a group again</p>
