The Gluten Free Support Thread

The only gluten free beer I’ve tried made me realize that I’ll just stick with hard cider and wine. But I’ve got snobby beer taste ;)

I tried a couple different rice pastas. They all tasted like… rice. So I didn’t see much point, I just eat rice instead.

ek4, I tried a GF beer, it was pretty bad, but I don’t remember the name. Which one was drinkable?

^^rice pastas are not great;

the best ones we have found are with potato and soy flours made by Bionaturae (usually found in supermarkets)…
There are corn based pastas as well that are very good…

The chocolate chip cookies are delicious but expensive.

Okay, I’m screwing myself up. I’ve never had gastric problems due to wheat. I thought I should try to be gluten free due to autoimmune issues. So…today I had two bites of cake and now I have terrible stomach cramps. Hmmm…

“Real” cake? Hmm, maybe your stomach is trying to tell you something… Or maybe it’s coincidence.

I had upper stomach pain for about a month 3 years ago. I thought I had an ulcer. Made an appointment with a gastro doc, but by the time I got in for my endoscopy, the pain had disappeared a few days earlier (and didn’t come back). Imagine my surprise when the biopsies showed Celiac. Bloodwork confirmed it. I even had a genetic test done last year, which also confirmed my very high genetic susceptibility.

When the doc told me about the biopsy results 2 weeks after the endoscopy, we were about to leave on a European vacation. I hadn’t had any more stomach pain – so we went, and I ate whatever I wanted, with no stomach pain at all. Came home, spent two weeks doing research and getting my ducks in a row, still no stomach pain. VERY reluctantly I went gluten free and have been that way for more than 2.5 years now, 100%. If I’ve ever been accidentally “glutened,” I wouldn’t know it; the pain never did come back. But I have confirmed Celiac, so I know I have to be 100% vigilant.

If I had my choice, I would not be gluten free.

I don’t drink that much beer & when I did I preferred IPAs ( or double bock beer like La Rossa) which this is not. More Belgian I think.

Trader Joe’s sells a brown rice pasta that is quite good. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t contain wheat.

Wheat is only one kind of noodle.Ever had gnocchi ( potato) or Pad Thai( rice)?

Missy-I’ve been using the “Is that gluten free?” app when food shopping. Lots of foods and brands are listed. It has really been helping me get the hang of it.

I just had a yummy, fairly low-carb, gluten free lunch.

About 1/3 cup cooked corn-quinoa pasta (the brand is Ancient Harvest, and it’s the Veggie Curls variety). Mixed it with an obscene amount of steamed green beans, and a few slices of lean canadian bacon, diced. Sprinkled italian salad dressing on it and topped with mediterranean herbs feta cheese. Ate it warm. Delicious!

There is a really good quinoa pasta substitute.

Seriously, my whole family loves it (nobody is gluten free, we were just experimenting with changing it up).

thanks for this thread. it’s very helpful.
i am on a restricted diet for weight loss and currently avoiding red meat, dairy, and bread. i think that i will be ok if i start trying gluten free bread (in small quantities) so i am happy to see the suggestions on this thread. basically, eating gluten free for several months now, i am feeling much better. the weight loss makes me feel better and i suspect that avoiding the gluten is a big help as well. before starting this diet, i did notice that certain grains didn’t agree with me. big offenders were rye and 100 percent whole wheat.
i wanted to suggest Greens First products. i have a wellness shake daily and sometimes a meal replacement shake. the superfood product and meal replacement products are gluten free. i mix them with almond milk rather than water and they taste great. you could try having the wellness shake for breakfast. yum !

I am not a meal replacement fan, although i did used to like Tigers milk protein powder shakes.
Now if I drink a milkshake, it better taste like a milk shake.

My daughters are now both going gluten free although neither one has a car so I imagine it isnt as easy as I have it with my grocery vowing to carry as many gluten free products as possible ( & they always have everything in the deli marked for allergens as well)

I am going to have to try the quinoa noodles, most rice noodles kinda go mushy.

^^have you tried this??
