Yeah, even though DIL laughed it off, I know I shouldn’t get her used to it. She might expect that everyone’s purse is a playground, LOL. I’ll take a small tote of toys like blocks and stuff for her and leave my purse where she can’t see it.
@SOSConcern ~ Wow, your friend is an angel. What a gift she is giving to her grandsons!
Congratulations, @tx5athome and @FallGirl!
@WayOutWestMom ~ You rock!
Prayers for your grandson, @garland, and hugs for you. It sounds like the PT will be a great advocate.
Congratulations, @Mansfield! Baby boys are wonderful!.
I care for GS and GD often. I try really hard to keep things the way they are when D and SIL are home. D parents pretty much like I did, so that makes it easier. I do let them ‘stall’ a bit more than their parents do. I give them five more minutes to play, one more lap on the scooter or bike, two more stories at bedtime, etc. Today D was working and SIL was on call, so I got to be the assistant at swimming lessons. Thank goodness SIL did not get called in during the lesson, but I did have my suit as GD is still in parent/child lessons.
I got to meet the little fella today. Just like all of your grandchildren, he is absolutely the cutest thing ever! He slept in my arms for 3 hours. I was in heaven.
I got to meet my grandson yesterday. I agree with @Mansfield it’s heavenly. My husband got to meet him today since the hospital only allows one guest per day.
He was born on Friday, took us all by surprise as Wednesday her due date nothing was happening and they had an induction scheduled for this coming Wednesday.
They come when they’re ready!!
Congratulations, @mom60! Enjoy your sweet new grandson!
My GD has been diagnosed with Beta Thalassemia. Does anyone here know anything about it? The pediatrician suspected it after routine bloodwork at her 12 month appointment, and she confirmed it at the 15 month. The pediatrician treats a number of children of middle eastern heritage, so she was tuned into the possibility (SIL is middle eastern). SIL’s brother has it, and it’s never been an issue for him. I just wondered if it’s more of an issue for females, particularly once they hit puberty. D plans to ask all about it at the next appointment, but I was just wondering. It’s a bummer that she will be dealing with low hemoglobin, because she has a rare blood type - maybe she will be able to donate blood if she wants to later, though. That’s pretty far down the road!
Sorry to hear that. But glad it was caught early. Did the docs suggested genetic testing? Hope her case will be mild. Hugs.
She had genetic testing done prior to getting pregnant & maybe during the pregnancy (not sure exactly what testing was done then). Nothing showed up, so I am guessing this might not be something routinely tested for. The brother in law who has it is a doctor, and he told them it’s not a big deal. The pediatrician didn’t seem overly concerned at this point. I guess it’s less of an issue when only one parent has the gene - and with absolutely no one on D’s side with it & no genetic connection to any of the countries where it’s commonly found, it’s doubtful D has the gene. If genetic testing is recommended, though, D will definitely do it. D is really good at not being overly stressed about her baby’s health, which is funny because she used to think she was deathly ill whenever SHE had an ache or a pain!
Hugs to you and to your family, @kelsmom. I will keep your sweet granddaughter in my prayers.
Some Beta Thalassemia patients need regular blood transfusions. A few friends have adopted children with the condition, and I think it is more common in Asians.
I have my fingers crossed that GD’s situation is not as dire. It sounds like the family history with it has been one of minimal issues, so hopefully that’s a good omen.
Definitely different levels, and different treatments needed. Glad she was diagnosed early and has all the benefits of good medicine.
Babysitting 2.5 year old GD, while her mom and dad take their first real vacation without her. They were suppose to go to Hawaii, which was booked 8 months ago, but D broke her foot and had surgery. While they were disappointment to miss out on Hawaii, it was to be a active trip with hikes and day trips; with her foot in a boot now, and crutches, that wasn’t going to work. As they had credit on SWA that expires this week, they needed to find somewhere to go so they could use up the credit. They decided on Cabo, to enjoy some sun and relaxation. That said, while the weather there is nice, the highs are only in the low-mid 70s; not exactly sitting by the pool with drink in hand and swimming weather! Oh well, at least they don’t have to take care of a little person
Speaking of the little person, she is a rule follower most of the time, or at least wants you to be. The parents left at 5:00 this morning, so my shift began at 6:30. Miss Bossy Pants told me I forgot to close the cabinet after getting her bowl out, and admonished my husband for not pushing his chair in after breakfast. We made it to school without any other corrections, but I am sure I did something wrong and she will remind me! Not sure if this kid is a product of her mother, or has a bit of OCD in her; her toys need to be put back in a certain place, the same location you found them. She doesn’t like change, yet she didn’t flinch when her mom told her they were leaving on an adventure; my daughter stressed about that all day yesterday and was worried GD would be upset. The only mention of her parents this morning is they will come back Saturday; she didn’t seem upset at all, which is a good thing.
My Granddaughter who will be 4 in May, at her parent’s home wanted to take only instruction from mom/dad - and I told her if an adult is telling you something, you should listen to those instructions (she was ‘helping’ by carrying a large glass item ‘helping’ and it looked like it might get dropped). DD and I do fine; SIL is lax and has mishaps occur.
I believe DD and I will get grandson potty trained while SIL is gone just like we did with GD. It only took a weekend with GD.
Did bossy pants watch herself between 5 and 6 30?
“Miss Bossy Pants” – haha. I think maybe all little girls are like that at one point or another.
. She was still sleeping between those hours! I don’t know what time she actually woke up, as I had the monitor volume down too low. I woke up around 6:30 and she was singing; for all I know she woke at 5:00! She goes to bed singing for up to an hour and continues when she wakes up! She is content staying in her crib until someone comes for her.
I went away last week to help out my other daughter (who had semi-major surgery last Monday). I was shocked when I got home yesterday afternoon at how much the twins had changed in just one week. And I’m not talking the haircuts both had gotten while I was away…
Twin B’s language has just exploded! She’s adding 2-3 new words every day. Yesterday’s new words were butterfly and socks. She already has between 30-40 words and is always asking “What’s that?” at things she points to.
She can also almost pronounce “Alexa”. Pretty soon she’ll be ordering stuff from Amazon without us knowing about it!
Mom signed the twins up for a toddler music class which starts Wednesday. It’s a 8 week series and each class is 45 minutes. Mom will be working this week so I’ll be taking the twins.
And in some devastating news, their nanny is quitting. Her last day is April 14. D and SIL are scrambling to find a replacement but haven’t found any promising leads yet. They may have to get by with a patchwork of babysitters until they can find another full time nanny. They’re also looking for a second nanny to help with the new baby due in September.
Those early music classes are so much fun!
IDK if you have a musical set of stuff at home. There are some sets like on Amazon for around $20 that have a lot of great stuff. Or you may want to see what they do in their classes first.
