Congratulations on the new grandson.
Well my niece is inducing today, so I will be a great aunt again for 8th time—yay!
Heading to oldest grandkid’s 6th birthday party!
Congrats on the new grandson.
Congratulations, @2VU0609 ! Welcome to your new grandson! I love your GD’s name for her new baby brother. Enjoy that sweet snuggle time!
Congrats!! Cookie!!
I got DGD (22 months) ready for bed last Saturday as I was babysitting her and big sister (4 yo). All pajama-ed up and sack-ed up. I picked her up and she literally put her head on my shoulder and was out like a light. LOL. So, I sat in the rocking chair to enjoy her head on my shoulder, her little hand on my chest, my hand under her bum and it was a perfect fit. It’s possible my youngest and his wife may not have another so this might be the last or one of the last rocking a baby that I’ll ever have. One of the pleasures of life. IMO.
Another. At DH’s birthday outing, DGD (3 yo) came running to me shouting “Mamaw!!” and I scooped her up and she wrapped herself in my arms for a hug. These are the special moments of life.
Happy moments.
She can call him that and no one will ever know where the name came from.
My daughter did not always speak clearly and when we moved she was talking to our new landlords who also had a child her age. She introduced herself and when she walked away the woman said “Her name is Cheerios?” Well yes, and here is my other daughter, Fruit Loops. No her name is not Cheerios, but if you say her name fast it could, possibly, maybe sound like that.
Cookie would have been better!
GS went for his 1 year check at the pediatrician. He’s at the 91st percentile for height for boy and the 83rd percentile for weight.
So despite starting out in the below average range, he’s grown into a big boy. His sisters likewise started out small. (Like really tiny–one was under 5 lbs despite being full term). Both are now tall for their age. The under-5-pounder is at the very top of the height chart for her age group.
And D proudly points out that all her kids are vegetarians and are doing just fine without ever having eaten meat. (She calls them all her all natural, organic, free range, vegetarian-fed kids.)
And today–the Halloween costumes my SIL ordered arrived. This year instead of a black cat, a flamingo and a kangaroo joey, we will have 3 sharks – a pink shark (could be a goblin shark if you squint), a hammerhead and a Great White.
Nice! And meanwhile, my 11lb 2ounce at birth GS is now at average height and weight-- a little less on weight as he is a stringbean.
For my two granddaughters we are thrilled if they are on the growth chart! (Currently around the fifth percentile). Their dad (my son)was the same until junior high and he is average height now.
My kids were always about 5% for height & weight from birth and sometimes even lower than 5% on weight.
My almost 5 year old GD is in town for the weekend to visit. Not long after arriving to the house, and pulling out some of the toys, she asked if the truck had brought any packages for her! In her defense, I always have something new for the GK when they visit, but my husband has been sick and just have come home from the hospital the day before. I was off my game, but she was a good sport. Luckily there was candy in the pantry, so crisis averted!
Reminder to self to go ahead and get some items ready for the next visit in advance.
I got a bunch of stuff (bUbble machines, balls that light up, etc) on clearance FOR 90% off!! Also at Dollar tree, $5 and below, TJ Maxx, etc
My mother-in-law always had a cupboard with things for when the grandkids came. Like @jym626 she would pick things up. She always had bubbles. It’s a good reminder to me that I should get a few things as GS will come stay a few days when his sibling is born late next month.
Our local Planned Parenthood has a huge book sale every year and I like to go pick up books to have for the grandkids. Yesterday the 18 month old came over and we had a new stack of board books to read. He also loved a small broom my husband keeps in our travel trailer. Grandson got busy sweeping up the dirt the dogs had dug out of the planter.
He loves cleaning. My daughter got the Mellisa and Doug broom, mop etc cleaning setup from Facebook Marketplace for $7. It’s been a real hit.
Several years ago a friend posted on FB that she had a mailbox in the backyard for her granddaughter. I thought it was a cute idea so I got one for my oldest granddaughter. Now I have four grandchildren so I have four mailboxes. If the flag is up they have a surprise. My son has three kids (4,2,6 mos) and lives 80 minutes away. Every time they visit (usually once a month) there is something in their mailbox. My daughter’s son is local and we usually see him twice a week. He usually gets something in his mailbox 2 or 3 times a month. I painted them all a different color and they have their names on them. I think they look cute. Target has cute stuff in their dollar section. I recently got wind-up Halloween characters for $1 each.
I can’t randomly get things for GD because they have limited space in their apartment . I generally ask, but sometimes I go rogue.
I scored a set of Melissa & Doug fruits and vegetables that are pre-“sliced” and stuck together with Velcro - at a resale shop - for $5. There is a sturdy plastic “knife” that the child can use to cut the fruits & veggies apart. I had no idea what a huge hit it would be! 2.5 year old GD plays with it more than any other toy. I try to buy toys at the resale shop because I never know what will interest her (I want different things here than she has at home).
Same!
I always bring gifts when I go to see the grands. Usually nothing big b/c they have to fit in my suitcase ,and as I saved many of my s’s books from when they were small, often I bring books from here to share with the grands. But I pick up little things from Michaels, TJ Max, Target , Dollar Tree, etc and since, when we stay at older s’s house our room is right by the kids and we get them up in the morning, I have a little something every morning for the kids. It’s probably a bit much but grandson who is about 2 1/2 still wants mommy/daddy when he gets up, but is usually happy to come to us and see what the morning prize is. Younger s’s apt is very small, so we have to go very light on gifts. He is only 1 1/2 so it may be bubbles, clothes, a book, etc. I got a wheels onthe Bus book with a button that plays the song and he loves it—- parents (son and DIL) hate it
