Our Little Miss Mess always asks to see the pictures of her we take. I’m sure she will like a book like that. What a great idea of a gift!
They periodically have sales of 20 or 25% off, so I wait for those.
off what??
I’m joining this thread! Have a grandson (born in July) from my DS16 who was so supported here on CC back in the day.
welcome!!!
Thank you!
My just turned 2 today GD loves her Tonie. She has had it for about 6 months. She also just likes playing with the figurines.
My almost 3 GS has a Yoto. We gave it to him for Chanukah last year. It’s taken him awhile to get into using it. He likes the music cards.
Today I want to go through what I’ve already bought and see if I need anything else. We will all be together this Chanukah for a few nights.
Love the photo book ideas.
OMG I forgot about Chanukah. Like I literally forgot that maybe a present would be something a grandparent would get for her grandson for Chanukah. (I get partial credit because I never forget Pesach gifts.)
Any suggestions of books as Chanukah presents to send to a family with kids ages 3-8? Recommendations are welcome with thanks!
Little Miss Mess and her cousins have Tonie boxes. The older kids (4-plus) are over theirs. Their mom requested an Osmo. LMM - 19 months old - loves to play with her box before going to bed every night.
I ran into this book a couple of weeks ago and was very tempted to get it for the grown son.
Our old family favorites are only available used.
I saw that caterpillar one but it didn’t seem enough caterpillar-y So I ended up getting a plush chanukiah.
If you don’t know what books they already have, I’d look for a book that is newly published this year, they are more likely not to have it yet!
For that age group Hanukkah sticker books could also be fun .
Or this game - if the younger one is decently verbal they could probably play along with someone as their partner. “Would You Rather” is a fun game in the plain version!

Perfect! Thank you all who recommended books!
Jym626, I was referring to “Pinhole Press” for spiral bound photo board books. A favorite present for my grandkids. I do one a year for each child.

When my nephew was a toddler, I made a ‘book’ of photos of the family. I just took photos (i think they were 4x6) and covered them with clear contact paper and used D rings to put them together. I included everyone and of course he knew himself, his sister, parents, me, grandparents but then some of the uncles and aunts became less familiar. He’d show me the pictures and name the people and then we’d get to uncles and he’d get confused (because he didn’t know them but they LOOKED like his father), so he’d say “Where Tom?” Tom was my BIL and he’d actually met him several times and he didn’t look like all the other uncles and he was toward the back of the book - skip those unfamiliar uncles and get to Tom. His mother, bless her heart, taped that ‘book’ together many times.
For my own daughter, I just used one of those plastic ‘Brag books’ they used to sell with about 20 slots to stick photos in. D also learned relatives by flipping through it every night.
Many years ago my sister made a zoo photo book for my daughter. She used photos they had taken on a trip to the zoo. She used contact paper. My daughter still has the book.
We were recently asked for photos from our DIL, my grandson has a speech therapist and she wanted photos of us to help in his therapy. It made me aware of how I’m usually behind the camera not in front of it.
I also used Pinhole Press for the books.
A fun and easy book craft activity with toddler.preschoolers is to take family photos or pics cut from magazines by taking a few ziploc sandwich bags, put two pics back to back, slip inside bag and “zip” and the bond then on the not zip edge with a stapler or heavy duty tape.
The great thing is you can then take the pics out and change them out either as they get new interests or are learning different concepts like shapes or letters or get new family members!
I looked up our local store, and they don’t ship. I bought a Noah’s ark menorah, and a simple book of the story, and a coloring book. (At different times, not just for grandson.). For my neighbors, I bought a Hannukah game. They seem to enjoy it.
Not for this holiday, but I bought my BF’s daughter a menorah for her new baby.
I’m sure I can find a site on line
