Congratulations to the family!
Congratulations!
Congratulations, bhs1978, to you and your family!
Those first snuggles will be extra special! Enjoy your time with your new granddaughter and your family!
Congrats
On Friday after 34 years of service with the federal government.
At my retirement party of the games was a quiz for me with answers provided by family. One answer that was repeated many times was “Pappa calling DD to pick up GS from daycare early so they can hang out.”
Today we took GS and family to our neighborhood joint. This is the last time we will see him in person for close to a month. DW and I are going on a 28 day roadtrip with some friends.
Congratulations on retirement, and after your road trip you can continue to enjoy being grandparents. Exciting times!
Thank you for your service to our country. I am sure that your talents will be missed. But enjoy retirement!!
Older s and his family have been here for almost a week. The list of things we did with the kids is longer than your arm, but of all the things we did, their most favorite thing by far just happened. They caught 2 fireflies. Their absolute glee was adorable. I had a bug catcher I’d gotten for them and we watched the fireflies in there briefly before letting them go. Younger grandchild had never seen a firefly, and older grandchild only saw them here on her last trip.
Until tonight, it has rained every evening so the fireflies didn’t come out. And even tonight they were very, very few. The kids leave tomorrow. The timing couldn’t have been better. It made my heart sing.
As a friend from KY says “lightnin bugs” - and with a thick enough accent to where I said, “oh, fireflies”. We had them in WI growing up. Yes, a novelty for some kids for sure.
For some reason my husband told my sons that fireflies turn into dimes overnight. So we had a little container with a lid, and the kids would catch them, and the next morning they’d have dimes. Apparently his dad told him, so he carried it on… they loved it.
Trip is going great. Have chatted with GS most afternoons
I grew up in NJ saying lightning bugs and fireflies pretty interchangeably.
We did too, but the KY heavy accent threw me.
When my brother and I were younger we used to freeze lighting bugs to see if we could freeze them while they were lit! I don’t remember is someone told use that, or why we did this; we tried may time, with no success!
My son’s daughter has been catching lizards since she was 3. Younger brother has been taught her skill, but she only allows him, at the age of 2, to catch the baby ones. They have bug catchers and catch them daily. The thought that there are so many lizards out and about in their city is wild, and the size of them!
One lizard made it in the washer with the sheets earlier this week; he did not survive the spin cycle.
Oh wow. Poor little fireflies.
I.am.sooooo.tired!
And a ton of laundry and cleaning to do. But so worth it.
This past week has been a whirlwind of grandchildren. We rented a lake house for a week and all the grands came for at least part of the week. It was chaos but so special to have them all together. The oldest is not quite 3 1/2 and the youngest 20 months. My husband was so happy he messaged the owner to book again next summer.
It’s not easy for my kids to travel with their kids so I’m grateful everyone made the trip. It was a 10 hour drive home yesterday for us. We picked up the dog from the sitter and haven’t yet unpacked the car.
Biggest challenge was one grand has multiple food allergies and we made it through the 5 days they were with us with no allergic reactions.
@mom60 -that sounds exhausting but also fun. So great that the grands have cousins who are close in age.
Little Miss Mess spent the Saturday night at our house - to give her parents a break. She was on her best behavior! So sweet! Played well, went to bed on time, slept great, and had zero potty accidents. As soon as we returned her to her parents, they texted us that she threw a giant tantrum and pooped her pants. She really knows that Nana doesn’t approve whining.
Speaking of toilet training, our youngest is doing quite well (except an accident here or there). Her reward for doing a good job? Not M&Ms or stickers. Flushing the toilet!! She refuses to use kiddie potties. It is the toilet that can be flushed or bust!
