Got a call from D just after I got in bed last night. 4 week old GS had a high fever and needed to go to the hospital. ( very triggering event as it was just about 2 years ago that GD had pneumonia and was in Children’s hospital PICU). Thankfully I live just 12 minutes away. I stayed the night in their guest room.
Good news- baby was not admitted, everyone is home and baby just has a summer virus.
We had a family reunion this past weekend,16 adults and the four grandchildren. Last grandchild and her mom went home last night. We already miss her. My house looks like a cyclone went through but it’s worth it. We also had another successful time together with no allergic reactions from the severe allergic grandchild. I will say I was happy when they went home and I could have dairy and eggs, vegan butter was good, vegan cream cheese Yuck!
I’m watching two of the locals this week for a half day as their preschool is closed. Any suggestions for easy activities for an almost 2 yr old and a 31/2 year old. Granted they are thrilled to just push Tonka trucks around the yard.
Nothing wrong with that. Or add @wayoutwestmom’s water play and push muddy Tonka trucks around in the mud.
This week the gas company did some repair work on the house next door. The little boys across the street had a great day just watching the trucks and bobcats and tar rollers and drillers for the entire day. Every time one truck left another BIGGER truck arrived. It was pretty amazing to me how many trucks it took to put in a new gas line. We also have a bridge being replaced a few blocks away and that’s been a source of endless fun to watch all summer (except for me, who finds it a pain to have to do the detour).
They love to watch trucks. We can see the airplanes approaching our local airport and that excites them. @WayOutWestMom I hadn’t thought of play dough, that’s a good idea. We have a bunch of sandy beach toys that need cleaning and I told the 3 year old we could do that next time he came over and he told me no he doesn’t like getting wet. I know once his brother starts he will join in.
I’m trying to have some things to do that don’t have me going all over our 2 plus acres following them around and keeping them out of trouble.
Chunky sized chalk, if you have a paved driveway? Or if you are able to get large poster sized sheets of paper, tracing them and coloring can be fun. Or just coloring on large sheets of paper. I used to bring home old plan sheets.
Honestly, the best activity for us was to visit every playground in the city. If schools are in session, those probably are out. Local parks and possibly churches. We hit them all… all… the… time…
It’s easy to take them out when I just have one of them. Two of them is more than I can handle out at this age. They both are fast and it’s hard keeping track of both of them. I also only have one car seat in my car.
I picked up dog paints and play dough. I have plenty of toys that they love. I have them one on one plenty of times but usually if I have both my husband helps.
When DS16 was in something like first grade, he asked me to make playdoh like they’d done in school. I knew it was going to be a big potchke and so I said, “OK, but I get to swear and you can’t copy me,” and he agreed. (Oddly, that was enough to forestall huge frustration on my part.)
Well, in the “it’s always something”, we are scheduled to head out to gd’s birthday next weekend. As I type, she is in the ER with a broken wrist and a piece of metal in her eye.
Update from DS- she was at the hospital until midnight but her wrist is set and they got the “debris” out of her eye. DIL said “she entertained the hospital staff”.
