Yesterday we went to a baby shower of the little kid’s good friends. Little kid was there, with her own offspring, Little Miss Mess (she is 2 1/4). There was a bunch of other kids aged between about 4 and 7, so to keep them corralled, someone turned the lounge TV to the Disney Channel (cable TV). Bluey was on, and all kids got glued to the screen! Then, as expected, a commercial interrupted the show. LMM looked very confused and kept asking me, “Where is Bluey?” That was her first experience with cable and commercials lol! At home, her parents have Disney Plus which has no commercials! ![]()
Some commercials that are during things the kids are OK to watch while the commercials are not to our standards; mute the sound during them. Sometimes even with football game commercials.
Thankfully, that was just the Disney channel so all commercials were PG,
max!
IMHO, many people that raised a number of children are tired. I just had the two, and at age 40 DH said he was ‘too old’ and I had to respect his feelings. Since I was SAHM for 18 years and then did have almost 5 years ‘sunset career’, my greatest achievement and satisfaction were with raising kids that are accomplished and happy adults. DD1/SIL need the help and DH and I will have satisfaction with contact and input with the Grandkids growing up. Right now is not DH’s cup of tea (7 and under). I am committed. I suspect we won’t see everything develop for us to move until 2027.
I see how exhausted the parents are, especially DD1. At age 31 and 35, they can handle it OK.
We fly across country to help with the gks. We will be arriving next week, staying at a hotel close to younger s and family, helping with their 2 little ones Friday and babysitting Friday night while both s’s and their spouses go to a concert. Then Sat we have an event to attend about 90 min north and then will go to older s’s house and help with the older grandkids and stay with them. This involves a very early morning birthday event that they have planned for gd, so we will be in duty with the grandson. Hoping he sleeps in at least a bit!
Yes, my folks raised us 7 kids and said they were done and not doing any primary childcare. They did enjoy time with ALL the grandkids when we came for extended clan dinners and they did watch our kids when we had to travel for medical reasons once and one trip we went to Europe without the kids.
We had the baby shower on Saturday for D1’s baby girl due in 5 weeks. It was a lovely San Diego day of about 77 degrees so we had the party both inside and outside.
That’s unusual. Says mom of three sons.
Tomorrow is our oldest grandchild’s ninth birthday. As we all say, where did the time go???
There is a photo on our refrigerator of beaming me holding him at the hospital. His cousin thinks I brought him to his parents in the hospital. LOL.
Nine already??? If we are still here when our grandkids start to apply to college I am going to faint!
I’d get the smelling salts (or whatever they are) ready! ![]()
Don’t we have to chance/advise them?
The other day, GD1 said to her baby sister, “You are so cute. Wouldn’t be nice to have a little brother.” SIL grabbed GD1, “Lets just be very clear, you are not having a baby brother.” I had to laugh out loud. As adorable as GD2 is, she was unexpected.
My 21 month old GD told her parents she wants a baby sister. My son-in-law told her baby sister isn’t very fun and he would get her a kitten instead. That was last week and they haven’t heard anymore about a baby sister or the kitten.
My GD spent the night last night, and we played restaurant. She wanted us to have accents (between Bluey and her paternal grandparents, she is all about accents). She decided that we needed to have French accents. I was excited, because I know some French … so I started to speak French, and she admonished me by telling me, “We’re not saying French, we’re just talking in a French accent.” And darned if I couldn’t do a French accent!
What a fun birthday idea! They surprised 8 kids in the early morning , brought them back to the house in their pajamas for a giant pancake breakfast. We are all in our pjs. The kids were super surprised. First one or 2 were dead asleep when gd woke them up
Was this for your GD with the broken arm? Great that she can have such a special day.
Yep! And she also for her ears pierced today. Big day.
The back of the shirt has train tracks so the dads can sleep on their stomachs and the kids can play on their backs. ![]()
