Just returning from visiting GD 21 mo. She did seem to remember us from FaceTime. The visit was priceless!
GD had an ultrasound on her head today, and all is well. We had suspected as much, but better to know for sure. And she is definitely growing into her head.
She had a major blowout on the way to her appointment, and D had to do a big cleanup job + clothing change in the hospital parking lot. She was pretty frazzled & forgot about the diaper … she left it in the bed of the pickup truck, where she did the cleanup. She was mortified to see the diaper fly out of the truck bed & hit a car on the highway. This is why I like being a grandparent better than being a parent … I am not in situations like that!
Not much to add in the way of an update, but D sent a video via text to me last night that shows the twins playing in their ball pit. Twin B has the best giggles! She was just laughing so hard.
Twins will be 9 months old next week. I haven’t seen them in 2 months and I feel like I am missing so much!
I love those first belly laughs that the babies have! It’s pure joy!!
GD went for her 6 months check up today. She grew quite a bit since her last check up. She was in the 25 percentile for both in height and weight, but this time she is in 50/75 for weight and height. The doctor asked D1 if she made any noise because she was so quiet during the visit. D1 said, “No worries, she makes sound when she wants do.” Tonight I did facetime with her. As soon as she saw me she dropped what was in her mouth and started babbling at me.
We spent a day with D’s family at the cabin they rented at a campground in upstate NY. Wonderful day of swimming, hanging out with grandkids, sitting around the fire, etc.
A little before we left, 2 1/2 year old GD was patting my face softly. Then she announced, “Grandma, you have a little beard.”
So I’ve got that going for me.
I love that!! I’m LOL!!
From the mouths of babes.
Our GD should be here any day. She is due the 1st and they will induce the 8th if she is not here by then. Her Mommy is stressing cause she does not want to be induced. My son is stressing because his beloved is stressing. She is so ready. Looking forward to seeing the first photos of them with their baby in their arms.
Waiting out the last weeks and praying that these new Covid strains will not adversely affect DD and baby due Sept 2. On Sunday had a great time with DD and her two older children, age 3 and age 2 - celebrated 2 YO birthday as he was at other grandparents’ home for actual date in another state. We are in state with highest Covid positive rate in the country (Alabama). Meanwhile DD2 moved to FL which is 2nd highest Covid positive rate.
A friend had a pg mom deliver by C section 3 weeks early due to having severe Covid. Baby is 4 lb and doing OK and mom was intubated. Women pg during this year could not get Covid vaccination. As soon as it is safe, pg DD will get Covid vaccination.
@SOSConcern my DIL contracted Covid right about the time she found out she was pregnant. Luckily it was not severe. They are in FL. I saw a map yesterday suggesting not traveling through certain States - every State we need to drive through to get to FL from OK was on the list.
How is the Mom that had to be intubated doing?
@swimcatsmom I will find out more from my co-worker today when I go to work.
AL newspaper says there are 26 children in AL hospitals with Covid. Doesn’t say their ages.
The state gathers ‘age’ information from hospital discharges, but it is affecting younger people who have not been immunized. Of course now age 12 and older sounds like immunizations are safe for them. Avg age right now coming out of hospital treatment for Covid is 54. The older folks are vaccinated!
My D was supposed to be induced, but once they gave her meds to relax her cervix prior to the induction scheduled for the following morning, our GD trotted on out without waiting for the actual induction. If your D ends up having to be induced, I hope it’s as easy for her as it was for my D!
Adding: We traveled through, and stayed in, high Covid risk states during the height of Covid (FIL was dying). We went a number of times, and we took precautions. We never got sick. Sometimes the risk is worth taking, and exercising caution can greatly reduce the risk.
Is it a universal recomendation that pregnant women shouldn’t get a COVID vax? My D got vaccinated in June (2020), she delivered GD at the end of December (2020). Her ob said she was OK to get the vax. D and GD haven’t had any problems from the vax–sure hope they’ll continue to be well.
@Bromfield2 my DD1 (the pg gal) is a BSN that is a nurse educator at a VA Hospital on the medical unit that handles their Covid patients outside of ICU. As a BSN I also am very cautious on doing lots of things in early pregnancy when the fetus/baby is most vulnerable. IDK what her OB/GYN’s position or physician group considers on this. Her VA unit has special ventilation that handled things in the past like Tuberculosis. I don’t know what all lead her into her decision making, but she is weighing her thoughts out now on when she will get vaccinated.
I am aware of 4 pregnant women who got vaccinated in their 3rd trimester on the recommendation of their OB.
@Mabelsmom I suspect DD1 is waiting to be ‘comfortably’ in 3rd trimester. She sees her OB/GYN every 2 weeks now, but last few appts has seen NP as her MD was backed up on the appts and DD needed to get back to work.
Hoping for good experience for your D and family! My D actually did get the vaccine while pregnant this spring. I’m so glad she was able to; hoping the little one also has antibodies.
My healthcare worker DIL was also vaccinated during her third trimester.
My DIL was vaccinated in December and GD was born in March. DIL was having issues with the growth of the baby and blood flow so the doctor recommended she get the vaccine and said the last thing they needed was for her to get Covid. Baby and mom are doing fabulous.
@swimcatsmom momma is improving and able to be off intubation. Hospital is taking extreme caution with baby - with no outside contact for 2 week period/mom and dad of course included in the no contact.
This week in our state, 32 children including one infant was hospitalized this week due to Covid. Co- Director of Div of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at two hospitals/Children’s and another stated “I was uncomfortable last year but I am scared right now for what lies in front of us with respect to our children”. “This delta strain is different and it is bad”. “We are standing in a tunnel right now and the train is accelerating at us as we speak.”
