an “inspired by a true story” movie about black students from a black college in Texas who took on Harvard’s debate team in the 1935-1936 school year. The scenes in the movie filmed in Harvard’s Memorial Hall are spellbinding. It’s a great movie about important issues.

I saw Denzel on campus a couple of days ago at the on-campus premiere of the movie.

I was there during filming this summer but didn’t get to see Denzel. there were, however, hundreds of extras camped outside Annenberg that I had to wade through to eat my meals every day…and you know, I didn’t mind seeing charming young men in 1930s outfits lol.

I saw it be filmed…Maybe I should go see it. ;)

Just to add a historical note, the actual team that they beat was the USC’s debate team - they changed it to Harvard because they thought it would add to the publicity, which it certainly has!

Yes, the New York Times Review

gets into which parts of the movie are strictly historical and which are imagined by Hollywood screenwriters. The basic story is cool all around, but the Harvard angle was added to give the movie more impact for today’s viewer.

Here’s a link about one of the real historical figures in the movie:
