The happy post

Susan, thank you! I’m so happy to hear the news about your very talented girls. Congratulations to both of them. Unfortunately, due to a change in plans, I’m not able to get to the city to see the show. I so enjoyed seeing your beautiful D in JCS last year and I have no doubt that I’ll be able to see her again onstage sometime soon! I’m looking forward to seeing your Ds’ friend next month when the Rent tour returns to Toronto - one of my favorite Marks, and I’ve seen a lot. :)

corranged, thank you for your kind words. I’m confident that you will get a wonderful internship for the summer. Just knowing you here through your words on CC, I can tell that you are a wonderful young woman who is kind and incredibly mature and intelligent. Good things will be coming your way.

binx, I have this vision of a time in the future when all of us here who have kids in the arts will meet in NYC, and each night we will go to a different venue to see each of them perform.

So nice to see everyone’s positive news. Yay for all of you! (Washdad, this is definitely the right thread for exclamation points!) :)

Thanks for all the kind words! After Soozie posted, I almost wanted to post ditto marks to her comments to others. It would be great fun to have a CC arts outing in NYC! What are the odds they would ever be performing on consecutive evenings? A better idea - maybe they can all do a CC benefit together!

Some day I envision attending something of Soozie’s D, and introducing myself as an invisible friend of her mother’s. Would be fun, if I didn’t think I’d get arrested or strait-jacketed. But I am expecting great things from her, and it is fun to think I almost know her!

My daughter called me today! We are on the infrequent calling plan, so, always a nice surprise to hear from her. She says, “Guess what I’m doing today?” I took two wrong guesses and then she told me. She is going to the Bible Wax Museum in Mansfield, OH with her friends.

Well, it was fun to hear from her.

I would love to see the kids of the CC parents perform if I could. Maybe some day!

I’m happy today because I got a $59 “DING” fare on Southwest for S to come home from college in May  This is especially great because he’s going to have excess baggage and I know he’ll have to pay at least $25 for a 3rd bag - maybe even another $50 for a 4th! Hopefully he’ll figure out a way to leave a lot of stuff there over the summer and not have to haul it home…

Patsmom … that “ding” fare would definitely have made MY day! :)

D is home on break, and we are enjoying having her here. She bought paint last summer & intended to paint her room. However, as I have pointed out here from time to time, she is a bit of a procrastinator … and the room never go painted. Last week, I tore her room apart, cleaned EVERYTHING, and painted her room. She was thrilled when she arrived home & went up to her room!

S got contacts a couple weeks ago & was a total pain about wearing them. He FINALLY got the hang of it … things are much calmer around here now.

D1 came in 4th in a 30 mile bike race this weekend. Cross country in Feb not my cup of tea, but she was elated!
Every kid got mostly done with the project we started at school today - even those whose computers crashed part-way through.

Ds1 started at shortstop tonight for the JV team, and they won! He got on base twice, once on a hit and once on an error. I think he likes playing JV better than varsity because it’s less pressure and everyone just has a good time. Some of these kids have never played ball before. I’m so glad we are in a situation where practically everyone who wants to play gets a chance.

I got an A on my first chemistry test–best score on my (very brainy, science nerdy) floor.

I got pulled over yesterday for NOT USING A TURN SIGNAL AT A GREEN LIGHT after midnight on a road to a gas station (on the way home from a candle light vigil) but got off with just a warning. Quite amusing, actually.

I’m home this weekend and am really excited to spend time with my family.

Classes are going well, my friends are going well, and I’m a pretty happy person.

What a great idea for a thread!

WashDad

By any chance, did Jake and Natalie pay for your lunch?

It’s 10 below zero and I’m off to wave for Obama in the cold.

I am happy because last night, just as I was thinking that I hadn’t talked to my son in quite a while, he called me out of the blue just to say hi and tell me that he is going skiing this weekend. At his first job after graduating last year, he was miserable and his hours did not allow him to have even a minimal social life. Last year, he called often (as he was driving home from work very late at night to our time zone which is three hours later than his  ) just to have someone to unload on, but now he is in a wonderful job in a great location. I am so glad that he is enjoying his life now!

And I e-mailed my daughter this morning to finalize plans for my sister-in-law (her aunt) and me visit her campus tomorrow. Swarthmore’s campus is a registered arboretum, and my SIL and I wanted to take a tour being given tomorrow. After several weeks of hearing from my daughter that “it wasn’t necessary for us to come, since she would be home in several weeks for break” and me responding that “we are coming to tour the campus and won’t even bother you if you don’t want to see us, although we would love to take you to lunch”, my daughter e-mailed me that she would like to join us on the tour, as she has never done it before!

I guess this shows that if you leave your kids alone, they will come to you :)

I love this thread - reading it makes me happy! Thanks for starting it, Youdon’tsay.

YES! YES! YES! Love this thread!
So glad to see everyone focusing on the positive things happening in their lives! This is great!
Thanks to everyone for posting - reading these is a great way to start the day.
Congrats to everyone for all the good things happening in your lives!

Ok - here’s what I can come up with…

 • Just turned 47 (lucky!) & DH & I just celebrated 24 ys. married (extra lucky!).
 • S1 is at a top school & has made highest honor roll.
 • S2 has finally started to think that college might be ok - haha!
 • S3 just made the 1st string HS JV soccer team (he’s only in middle school).
 • Our 15-yr old sheltie is still hangin’ in there!
 • It’s a beautiful FRIDAY morning!!

Life is good!
Cheers to all!

Well, the temperature here has soared to 15 degrees and the sun is out.

I have a wonderful hubby and our son is having a great time and doing well academically in his first year of college.

We can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel on our building project.

Close friends are coming over for the weekend.

Life is very good.

I’ve been dieting since 1 Jan. 1st 10 pounds came off like butter, but the past two weeks I’ve hit the wall and lost zero pounds. I had a great swim workout this morning, got on the scale and voila! 1lb lost, finally!!

My son’s band, Winston Audio (check them out on Myspace!) had all their gear stolen last week. Over $10,000 worth of guitars, amps, etc and these guys are trying to make a go of this and are just finishing up their first full-length album. They are NOT making money yet, to speak of, so this was a huge blow to them. Instead of letting it defeat them, they all agreed that this would make them even stronger. People they did not even know personally, but who heard them, donated money to help them out.

And last night, the people who stole their stuff BROUGT IT BACK!!!

It seems they got word that they might have been caught on a surveilance camera and became afraid.

Wow, prayers work in many, many situations!!!

BTW, they are going to contact all who donated $$ to them and offer to give it back.

They are a happy group of guys!

Having just moved from Michigan to New York City, we’re now close enough to visit our kids at Penn for special events. Tomorrow night they are both playing in an orchestra concert and it’s so nice to be able to hop a train and see them. We’ve definitely been music deprived since they graduated HS.

bethievt: 15C or 15F ??? ;)

It was close to 65 degrees (F, of course :)) here, and the sun peeked through the clouds just as I went out to get some lunch. Inspired by the sunshine, I treated myself to a small cup of icecream. Mmmm, life is good!

My happy moment happened last week, when at precisely 2:01 pm my phone ran. “Mommy, guess what? I got a likely letter!” Gosh, what a relief! She’s been waiting for that moment ever since the college told them the results would be posted online at 2 pm our time last Thurs. Thank you, DD for letting me be the first one to learn about your good news!

My freshman son is home on Spring Break! And he’s helping me set up my new laptop!! I’m happy.
