The Harvard Waitlist Waiting Room 2014 Thread

Well- I’m in.
It’s hard to believe. I had completely given up on it, so I was very surprised when I got a phone call this morning. It ended up being a game of phone tag, but I finally got the good news.
So now I’m changing all the plans, but I’m happy to do it!
The thread was a big help to me in the first couple months. It made me feel like I had some knowledge of the system.
Thanks everyone.

Congrats! I’ll assume that means the process is over and that our letters will be arriving shortly. Happily,

Qizixite

Congrats! There’s nothing like that feeling–getting accepted off a waitlist. Such a surprise. It feels surreal for sure. SO happy for you.

Can we ask…where were you planning on going before you heard?

I went to drop off some financial aid stuff yesterday for my son, who will be a senior (Admissions and Financial Aid are in the same office), and I found out by overhearing a conversation that the admissions committee was still meeting on Monday (and the secretary didn’t know when they would be getting out), so I’m hoping that means a few more of you might still get in. Good luck to all of you, wherever you go, because you will make your college that much better!

I was going to go to Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. I realize it’s not a popular school for waitlistees, but I’m a skier, and knew I wanted to ski on a college team, so I wasn’t looking at any of the other top 20 universities.
The two schools could not be more different.

I just wanted to let you guys know that my daughter also got called yesterday morning. She had given up and was absolutely stunned. Like many of you, she was very committed to the school where she thought she was going. I just wanted to tell you all that I have read these posts from time to time, and I think you are all amazing. Good luck to all of you.

i’m on vacation, but i found out that i was z-listed! i can’t believe it…

@serendipityyy - What are you going to do?

qizixite, I would like to thank you for your leadership in this little community over these last months. I hope Harvard gives you a happy call today, but if not, I know you will do outstandingly well wherever you go. Same to all of you outstanding people in this thread. Your gifts and your commitment give me hope for the future of our world.

I want to second KeepHopeAlive’s comments. I have no doubt that whichever university is lucky enough to have you join them in the Fall (or after a gap year) will be enriched by your being part of its community.

If Harvard said all waitlist activity would be concluded at the end of June (which is today), they would surely be sending the email closing off the waitlist sometime between now and 5 PM, right?

They wouldn’t do it tomorrow or extend the waitlist into July, right?

The students who have recently been notified of acceptance have some time to let the school know so if they decide not to go then there will be a few more spaces.

I was told that I’d be getting an email on Thursday and a letter on Friday.

Well guys, it’s been fun! I am assuming it is over and I have decided to type up an after-action report for next years waitlistees. I will post a final list of waitlistees when the rejection letters come out. Thank you to everyone who kept this thread going! I’m also going to create an easy-to-use format for next year’s tabulater. Please comment with ideas. I’ll post the final version in several days. Thanks!

-Qizixite

ps. By the way, this thread is the second most viewed thread in the Harvard forum with over 275,000 views. It will probably be the most viewed thread in a few months. Yikes!

@qizixite U Chicago is an amazing university but it will be a better place with you there! :)

REJECTED!!! The process is officially over (for me at least). Thank you everyone for making the entire thing bearable!

@quizixite: Harvard’s loss is U.Chicago’s gain. We will miss you and your thoughtful leadership, and I know you will do GREAT at Chicago.

@quizixite: A major thing you probably didn’t get credit for in your Harvard admissions portfolio is the leadership you provided on this thread. They don’t know what they’re losing, but we do. Thanks for all you’ve done.

Anyway, Chicago’s a great school, and I think you’ll have a great time there.

Harvard is not the only place to house all achievers! There are so many outstanding schools in the world, not just in America!

Presidents, leaders, scientists, artists, astronomers, engineers, journalists, photographers, musicians, Nobel prize winners, … you name it, … are from every corner in the world, not just from Harvard!

Many of you are too good for Harvard to fit in. She understands her limitations in her environment. Therefore she let you fly high to the sky to reach your goals! It is not your loss for not being in her yard, it is not a win for Harvard to keep you in her yard either!

So all, cheer up for a brightest future!

Good luck to all!

@Worldh26 where are you going to school? It seems you like to post on dead threads. Post #1900 yay!
