The Help – February CC Book Club Selection

Our next book is a novel that has gotten rave reviews: The Help by Kathryn Stockett. January will be our month for reading, and discussion will begin on Saturday, February 13th.

I was going to wait until January officially began before starting this thread, but another poster mentioned today that Amazon.com is selling the hardcover edition of the The Help for $9.50 (original price: $24.95). Those deals don’t always last, so I wanted to pass along the information for those who don’t have a copy of the book yet. (Thanks for the tip, ignatius!)

Have fun reading! I’ll bump up this thread once or twice before February 13th as a reminder.

I read this book when it first came out and loved it! I may have to reread or at least skim so I can participate in the discussion.

I am glad to see this choice, as I have heard rave reviews of this book. Was waiting to purchase it until it came out in paperback, but got a copy for Xmas!

I won’t spoil discussion by saying anything other than I just finished this book last Sunday and it is WONDERFUL!!!

My book club here had it for January and I finished it in three days. Couldn’t put it down and was sad when it was over. Riveting.

^^^^

I was also sad when it was over . . . sign of a good book!

Almost finished with it, and agree it’s been a nice surprise.

I am not in any book club, but I just finished ready THE HELP. Truly one of the best books I have read in a long time. And, for you comparision reader/movie watchers THE HELP is being cast now. I cannot wait to see it.

^ Well, you’re in our book club! I hope you come back and share your thoughts with us in more detail when we discuss next month.

My “actual” book club is reading Help in spring, but I’ll buy it now and join in.

Thank you for the invitation! I’ll join in the discussion in February. :)

I thought I would bump this up in case anyone missed it…

I had been looking for a book and bought this a few days ago. I love it!
Happy Reading!

I managed to snag it at the library right after it was released. I really enjoyed it.

Enjoyed it. Finished it yesterday, and hope I can remember the details by Feb

I’m reading it now, and am about halfway through. Looking forward to the discussion!

I read it and loved it so much that as soon as I finished it, I re-read it immediately. Terrific book. I’ll be back on Feb 13!!

About 1/3 through and completely enjoying it.

I finished a few weeks ago and am thinking about reading it again this weekend - if it snows!
I think it is one of those books where one can gain a lot by a re-read.

Happy reading!

I read 50-60 pages yesterday evening. Woke up in the middle of the night and read for another hour! It’s fabulous!

Thinking about suggesting this one for my book club. Last one I suggested (my turn) was A Year by the Sea, Thoughts of an unfinished woman by Joan Anderson.

Trying to decide between The Help or a classic, To Kill a Mockingbird. Too much “chick llit” makes my mind go numb. We are currently reading “Dear John”… ;)
