Haha, we bought that at a garage sale for $40 just to have something to sit on. ![]()
Wonder if I can get a burn permit for it. ![]()

It caught my eye hidden off to the right
Great flooring, @notrichenough !
Ahaha! I was going to inquire about the couch and the table, too!
Reminds me of the Volkswagen Da-da-da commercial.
Burn permit sounds about right!
They threw in that coffee table and a couple of end tables for an extra $10 at the garage sale.
@coralbrook - yes, that light is one of my favorites. A local developer put it into one of their $3M architect-designed homes⊠Too bad our house does not have the ceiling height for it! We setttled for the molecule light fixture instead.
Patiently waiting for my clear cherry cabinets to darken under the light⊠The kitchen no longer looks like a hospital recovery room, but⊠now the whitewash oak floors look kinda old⊠but we are keeping the entire 1500 sft of them. Not going to spend a fortune on replacement! Not yet.
A quick question: I havenât used our gas fireplace for the past several years. I do remember working well the last time I used it. Just turn on the switch and the fireplace lights up. Now, even though I can see the pilot light on at all times, it seems to take forever before the fireplace lights up after turning on the switch. It does fire up. Just takes forever. My guess is that, because I havenât use it for so long, something got clogged up? Who do I call to shape my fireplace back to a good working order? Or is it something that I can easily take care of myself?
I got heat today!
Donât really need it yet (I have the AC on in the bedroom, though itâs 66 outside. But itâs comforting to hope things will be warmer inside when we need it. She swapped all the valves (steam radiators) and set them so heat goes out the longer runs first. Fingers crossed this takes care of a long problem.
I donât know, but when I had a gas stove burner that wouldnât come on all the way, the man who came to fix it showed me how to just straighten out a paperclip and use it to go into each little hole to clear it. So that could work for you if you can find where the gas comes out of.
Thank you. Should a paper clip method doesnât work out, which specialist do I need to call?
Is there a place that sells and installs gas fireplace inserts? Or maybe call an appliance repair person and ask if they can fix it. Or a plumber, since they also deal with gas pipes.
Dirty pilot? Meaning it does not heat up the thermopile or thermocouple enough to generate voltage sufficient to turn it on? Dirty burner? Call a pro.
Bad thermopile (if you have one of those)?

If you are not that handy with gas and electricity, call a service pro.
I would check the fireplace manufacturerâs website for service companies. Last time we had to call service for our furnace, the recommended by Trane service guy was great.
@TiggerDad - Typically youâd call a heating contractor for a gas fireplace repair.
Our gas company has a list of recommended workmen for gas appliances and gas logs.
Thank you, everyone, for your helpful suggestions!
We call the propane tank providers. Their techs can fix this stuff. Itâs not hard to do, but I wonât take the risk of maintaining it myself.
Hereâs my weekly problem report:
Hereâs the good news:
Sigh. This project is never going to end.
Holy JPMorgan. So sorry to hear that your project is such a neverending morass.
Hugs. It will end!!! Make sure your friends know not to deal with these contractors again!
Yep. We have a long list of who not to work with! My hairdresser just asked for a recommendation. I was able to tell her who to avoid!
