Thanks for introducing me to Pewabic tile; I’d never heard of it. Wow, some really great pieces. I’m seeing a Christmas gift or two, and I don’t do a lot of gift giving. Thanks so much!

I just wish this one wasn’t sold out. :slightly_frowning_face:

You just missed (on your trip to Michigan) their summer weekend “sales” - we didn’t go - but I’d love to sometime! Their storefront is a cool building. I think they offer classes as well.

Many of the homes in southeast Michigan feature Pewabic tile around their fireplace. We have a couple of small pieces, this one being our favorite. There is the tiniest little “point” on the :canada: side which is exactly where our cottage used to be. :purple_heart:

It’s a fun shop to visit if you’re ever in the Detroit area, lots of fun gifts and they have a little museum upstairs.

Another art pottery company that has quality tiles is Rockwood Pottery. It’s based in Cincinnati and has been around since the 1800s. Some of the old pieces are collector’s items that fans spend lots of time trying to find. Here’s a link:

Here are some photos from our master bathroom, from the shower which is finished. I’ll share some more once the whole BR is finished. Just to clarify I didn’t use Pewabic tile but the tile installer is a master tiler for Pewabic. Their tile is priced per tile and it is $$$!

So fresh and new!!! What is your favorite feature of the bathroom at this point???

Good question! It’s going to be such an upgrade from our old bathroom! I love the faucet fixtures, love the crystal handles and I love the floor tile

I like tiles from Pewabic (Detroit) Rookwood (Cincinnati) and Motawi (Ann Arbor). We’ve had affiliations with all these areas and we have tiles from them incorporated in our home. This is one of my favorites (from Pewabic)

No one here has a gazebo or a pergola in their yards?

We do not have either but when I think of a pergola I think that people often plant a vining plant on/over it to provide additional shade and interest. Were you planning to do something like that?
How enclosed is the gazebo?

We have an 8x8 gazebo on our deck - replaced once due to rusting and the canopy gets replaced every 2-3 years. It sits out in the San Diego sun. Our design does not seem to be available anymore but it was similar to this:

https://www.wayfair.com/outdoor/pdp/coos-bay-8-ft-w-x-8-ft-d-steel-patio-gazebo-aosb1021.html?piid=93869507

We had a similar gazebo as above - to be able to grill when it rains in our PNW neck of the woods. We don’t get much snow so never took it down… until one winter we got a foot of snow in one day followed by rain! The water soaked snow took the gazebo down quickly :joy:. My husband eventually disposed of the twisted metal in the recycling bin. Make sure to account for snow load if you live in a climate where it can be an issue!

I was assuming (don’t know why!) that @arisamp was talking about a hearty wood gazebo or pergola - maybe because I’ve known/seen other people buy these structures from Costco. More details @arisamp ?

Even with a wood gazebo, snow load has to be considered. That snow storm I was talking about took out some sturdy wooden boat cover structures at several marinas! Unlike a gazebo with a fabric cover that can be removed, a wooden one has to handle whatever Mother Nature sends on top of it.

I was thinking of a wood gazebo with an aluminum roof. No walls, just the posts and the roof for cover.

@Marilyn - friends of ours had one very similar to yours on their deck. Loved it.

I finally have a reason to join this thread! We need to replace the sink/mirror/toilet in our guest bathroom, which is where I shower and visit during the day as needed. The old sink is a very weird size so we really need to replace the entire vanity.

I have the great fortune to be able to consult our resident CC flipper Coralbrook - we had a lengthy text talk last night so got lots of good advice. As a side note, she is doing well, working on ADU’s in the area, and hoping to “retire” next year and update her own “family compound.” She is still traveling for fun.

Anyway, we both like the vanity below. I like the color and the interesting architecture; it seems elegant. And versatile storage space. Husband’s comment “I don’t particularly care for it, but your bathroom, whatever.” I take that as full clearance to proceed ;). The less spent, the better, in his opinion. Technically we could also replace the tub - I want to have a tub and the other bathroom has a stall shower. But that would involve several thousand more dollars so not necessary.

The expert and I agree the floor will need to be redone. She recommends new vanity lights but I think just the ceiling light can be replaced (that’s optional, but a small increase in cost while we have workers here to do it. Ditto the towel racks. I am not hung up on metals matching everywhere, but the current towel racks are silver/gold, and ugly.)

I don’t care for patterned tile on the floor but do like something like this:

CB highly recommends a bidet toilet; also the smooth side style for easy cleaning. I want a ADA aka senior height. How do people feel about bidets? Worth the extra cost and trouble, or not that much benefit? I could go all out with something like this (our expert likes Deer Valley):

https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEERVALLEY-1-28-GPF-Elongated-Smart-Bidet-Toilet-in-White-with-Auto-Flush-Manual-Open-Close-Instant-Warm-Water-Warm-Air-Dryer-DV-1S0150/329871311#product-section-qa

Otherwise, something like this:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/KOHLER-Gleam-12-in-Rough-In-2-Piece-1-28-GFP-Single-Flush-Elongated-Chair-Height-Toilet-in-White-with-Soft-Close-Seat-K-31674-0/312838678#see-more-details

This will be fun, as long as I can get husband onboard with everything. I have already offered to cover the majority of cost.
