Our neighbors next door put cherry cabinets in their new constitution dream house kitchen. Us old ferts love cherry.
Darn autocorrect. New construction! Lol.
The vanity arrived yesterday. We had to unbox it and the carpenters who are working on our barn/garage manfully heaved it into the house. Itās sitting at the foot of the stairs to the second floor. It is very heavy because the marble top is attached.
Now is the time for H to put all of his pumping iron to good use. B-)
The marble, as I feared from the comments, has streaks or inclusions or whatever you call them of a very pale cream/gold/fawn color, not the grey I would have preferred. Oh well, I simply could not find one with a carrera marble top that would work. The vanity is pretty, and I may go for a very page greige such as Pale Oak on the walls above the beadboard in Cotton Balls. Weāll see.
We might have a little side project going this weekend⦠Mister mentioned to me that the micro was not heating well. The turntable inside does not work, and the whole thing is just so darn old⦠20 years according to the papers. The micro is a tabletop Kitchenaid that was made into a builtin with a clever use of metal brackets and some SS trim. I plan on paying a visit to our favorite appliance sales lady to see what she was in stock.
@notrichenough - can you look this listing up? Dying to see more photos. ![]()

@Consolation - yikes! Why canāt they sell these things RTA? Please be careful hauling it up the stairs.
If the marble top will begin to irritate you, you can eventually replace it with the kind you like. Although if it aināt broke⦠I am not touching our dark granite in the bathroom because it is functional and in a good shape. The limestone in the kitchen had to go from day one. No way I would have scrubbed veggie stains out of it! I thought I could find peace with the painted cabinetry, but alas, it began to irritate me more and more, so it finally had to go!
Pretty nice for a cave:

Those ceilings are just too low for me, lol.
@notrichenough - thanks!!!
Inquiring minds want to know - how the beep they were able to permit that remodel? Lol.
Itās in the middle of nowhere in Arkansas, so maybe they didnāt bother. Or maybe since the guy that built it was pretty rich, he could afford the lawyers or bribes.
Or maybe all they did were ārepairsā of the things the original builder did⦠
We certainly are doing a lot of repairs here! Replaced the siding, a few windows, ripped out old appliances, junked the old cabinets in the garage⦠Now it is the microwaveās turn. I really donāt need it because I use it once in a blue moon, but Mr. says we must have one. How else will he reheat his soup when I am not at home?
This is really just a vent/rant so ignore if you donāt want to hear it. Iām growing increasingly frustrated with our contractor and crew. We just canāt seem to cross the finish line on any part of the project. Yesterday I was super excited because the plumbers finally finished up our main floor powder room, so I expected it to be completed. Yeah, nope. The cabinet shelves couldnāt be installed because of how the plumbers ran the pipes, now they need to be cut by the carpenter, and the painter never puttied and painted the door jamb or base molding. Today the master bath was supposed to be finishedā¦well, everything except the base molding, door trim and doors (on special order). We came home and only part of the hardware was installed and we discovered that some of the shelves for the cabinets were cracked. My kitchen is still waiting on the hood which means they canāt complete the backsplash. The kitchen still needs to be repainted (we finally found the right color after 4 trips and 6 paint samples), and the electrician needs to come back to run the electrical in the bathroom. Oh, and the contractor āforgotā to have the glass/mirror guy measure for the bathroom mirrors. We also still have three closets still not installed.
What really irks me is the contractor keeps acting like the job is done, telling me when can move all our stuff in and start living in the spaces. Um, no electrical and no mirrors in the master bath makes getting ready in there impossible; Iām not putting clothes in a closet that still needs baseboards, painting, and a door just to get dusty and dirty. And, they still havenāt painted the master bedroom so why would we move furniture into the room only to have it moved away from the walls later?
The contractor still hasnāt billed us so we still have a chunk of money in reserve and itās not getting paid out until this is done so we have plenty of recourse, but I just want this project (at least this phase), done once and for all! Weāre now 6 weeks behind the original time line and for sure have at least 2 -3 weeks to go.
We definitely should have doubled the time line in our heads rather than just add 4 weeks.
Thanks for the virtual ear. #norenoeveragain
Iām reminded of this TV commercial:

Have faith, itās all going to work out and youāre going to love it when itās done.
Lol! Sounds about right. At least our kitchen gnomes are doing something every day⦠and havenāt found the wine room yet.
Weāre hosting an October wedding and are scurrying to get everything ready. New concrete driveway? Check. Hydroseed? Check. Bidet toilet seats in every bathroom? Yes. Admittedly these are first world issues, but I want it perfect.
Awesome! I really like a forced, set in stone deadline for things that need to be done but donāt have to be done right away. B-)
October is only 2 weeks awayā¦better hurry through the list:)
Oh the micro woes⦠Mr. fell in love with an overpriced (by my standards) Miele one⦠Sigh. It will require some creative work to shove it into the existing cabinet, but he is up for the challenge. Personally, I would have zero microwave ovens in my kitchen, but someone needs an overpriced kitchen appliance to heat a cup of soup once in a blue moon. I gave upā¦
Project update:
We are sort of in the same mode that momofsenior1 is in - no matter how much they get done, it always seems like it will be another month.
The painters are there now and have been for more than a week, almost everything has been primed and almost all the trim is done, but there is no color on the walls yet. What have they been doing for seven days?! The neighbors say the trucks are there every day⦠apparently I have no clue about how long it takes to paint.
Hopefully they will finish this week, so the flooring guys can start next week. Iām sure what seems like a three-day job to me will wind up taking them two weeks as well.
After that whatās left is the railing system and finish electrical and plumbing, and Iām sure a bunch of little things Iām not thinking of.
So - another month!
Budget is getting a little out of control too, which is not great. Project fatigue is definitely setting in, weāve been working on this for over 9 months and been under construction for over 5 months. I want it to be done!!!
B-)
Painting takes an unbelievably long time if you do it right.
