The Hunting Ground

Wonder when it’s on CNN?

Movie theaters first I guess.

The Hunting Ground is opening tomorrow.

I heard there is some truth in the documentary and I was told some truth is good enough.

Interesting. Will wait I suppose.

I might wait until the documentary is shown on CNN too. I haven’t decided yet.

May not have a choice. I don’t know if the documentary is playing around here.

They’ll be showing it in Berkeley. Bit of a schlep for me.

Hmmmm…

I could go there…

A trailer is out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBNHGi36nlM

It’s going to be difficult for me to evaluate this film. We’re going to hear a lot from accusers, but that’s just one side of the story. I hope that there are some parts that are more neutral.

We’ll see.

Based on the trailer, it looks like the two sides of the story they are telling are whether it’s maliciously criminal or merely deeply misguided for college administrators to punish rape victims and to facilitate rape as much as they do.

The Hunting Ground is an advocacy film. There are not supposed to be two sides in this kind of project.

It does appear to be a film with a viewpoint. That’s not a bad thing, necessarily.

No not a bad thing if you want to watch a documentary about the topic from film-makers who are upfront about their position. The producers did a similar documentary focusing on the military. The timing is probably spot on for the producers for this film vs. the military film with the media coverage of the mattress woman and the Florida case(s) still in the news.

Slate’s Emily Yoffe raises some good points

I hadn’t known of this. I just watched the trailer and found it very powerful. What struck my is how put together and articulate the young women are. If you take a snapshot of someone you can cast them into a type in your mind. To see and hear these young women was moving. It takes away the “they must be floozies” defense.

I do occassionally watch Skip Bayless and Stephen A Smith. I have no idea why.

More than 1000 colleges are asking for screenings of The Hunting Ground.

I’m assuming these are cases where some group on campus is asking for the screening, not the college administration.

Not surprising. Personally I would hope that most people understand this is an advocacy film and presents only one side of these issues, but I can certainly understand why Florida State is taking the steps they are taking in light of the civil case.

This is a one sided documentary…
