Has anyone ever taken the test standby before?
I still have to be billed, ■■■. How long does that normally take (without the messiness of this test)?

I haven’t taken the ACT standby before (I took the SAT standby), but from what I hear, it takes much longer to receive your scores than it does for a registered tester. When I took the SAT standby, I included the payment (credit card number) and my social security number in the testing form, and I got the results on the first day of national release. From what I’ve heard though, the people at ACT grade standby tests last.

Oh my goodness, I remember someone saying that some scores would be up on Monday even though they only grade on Wednesday and Friday?

I think that they said that the majority of the scores won’t be posted until January 3rd, due to vacation. ACT says that the scores are posted “usually each Wednesday and Friday”; this implies that some scores will be posted on other days, but don’t expect it.

It’s Friday now and I still haven’t received my score. This is ridiculous!

I honestly think that scores will be flowing in after the new year weekend. Just a little longer, guys!

Let’s hope so. I just hope that I don’t get my scores back to realize that I didn’t do as well as I hoped. :P

I’ve contacted the schools I’m applying to in regards to the delay…

Brown, NYU, and UC’s will still accept the scores EVEN if they come in late January/February. USC gave a kind of odd response, maybe someone can decipher it for me. They said, “Yes, as long as you request to have the test scores submitted to us by the application deadline.” But also, if you look at the USC website, they say that they will still accept tests taken after 2011. Keep in mind that schools have to have the mid-year report to make a final decision. Mid-year reports are mailed by February 12th, which would be after the latest possible date that the ACT would come out. Therefore, it’s not a big problem if the ACT results DO take until February.

I will do my best to decipher!

For the regular application deadline of January 10th, as long as you have listed USC as a score recipient by that date - you are fine. If the results are as late as some are fearing, I suggest you FAX them to USC to be sure they notice that you have new scores, and mention that you DID order them in advance of the deadline.

For the scholarship deadline of December 1st, USC will make every effort to include your latest scores, but there is a time factor that might make the ACT score delay a problem: The Trustee and Presidential scholarship candidates will be selected and notified by the last week of January. A poster who’s spouse is a faculty member told us last year that the departments were meeting the first week of January to select candidates. If the scores do not arrive until late January or February, there is simply no way they can be used to evaluate your application for the two top scholarships. If that is the case your application will automatically be considered with the regular deadline, and still may be eligible for the smaller scholarships awarded later in the process (and your new scores should be available by then).

In all cases for USC, I suggest you FAX your unofficial scores the minute they are available to you. Include your USC ID#. Best of luck.

I am very sorry all of you are encountering this stressful and unfair situation with your scores, and hope very much that it is quickly resolved.

So if a college sort of had the same response but say the deadline is Jan 3rd, then we should be fine as long as we list them as a recipient on the 3rd? I wasn’t sure if colleges see the day that you send them or just take note of the day that it arrives.

USC is one of my score recipients. Thank god their deadline is the 10th! I’m hoping the scores do come out on wednesday.

It’s my fault. I’m an international standby.

so i called today, AGAIN. here is how the conversation went:

“Hi, I’m sure you’ve gotten many of these calls today but I haven’t received my scores yet. I know that ACT has until February, but they NEVER take this long. I’m a senior and it was vital I have my scores by the 27th, it’s now the 3rd. I need to know when the scores will be ready.”

“Sorry, you signed up for the December ACT knowing that it would take up to February and–”

" I signed up for the December ACT because I thought I would get my scores by the 27th. I’ve always received my scores on the first day. Please, don’t tell me it always takes this long to score the tests because it doesn’t, at least, never has it been that SO many people have not got their scores."

“Nothing I can do.”

“Can you please connect me to your manager or supervisor.”

“I am the supervisor.”

“Okay so connect me to the person you answer to.”

“I’m sorry I can’t do that.”

“When do you expect the scores to be ready”

“February.”

“That’s unacceptable, I don’t pay $48 plus score reports for it to take 8 weeks to get scores. Do you understand the gravity of this situation? Do you have children- have they applied to college? I’m sure you could empathize with what’s going on.”

“We’re getting the scores out every wednesday and friday.”

“No student at my center got their scores.”

“Well, okay, but that’s just your center. Maybe it came in late- the weather’s been bad.”

“No actually, there are people across the nation who have also not received their scores.”

“Sorry there’s nothing I can do.”

“You’re the supervisor, you have insight into why there has been such a delay, or, you can find out why my test center specifically hasn’t been scored and when it will be.”

**“That would take a lot of work to find out, it would probably take longer than just waiting to have the scored.” **

“If you can’t manage to do this, I don’t understand why you are the supervisor. I’m sorry, but this is just unfathomable. The nonchalance that ACT has exhibited is just ridiculous.”

^That was completely unnecessary. You very well know the ACT service as until Feb 4th to return the results of that test. You’re arguments are riddled with logical fallacies. I’m surprised the person even continued to talk with you. If I were that person, I would hang up. While I do admit this wait is quite ridiculous, there is nothing we can say to them since they have previously indicated on their website that results may take up to 8 weeks.

They also imply that if they are not available the first day it’s because you made a mistake.

Really, because i consider it completely necessary. I’ve been told by other ACT operators that it only takes longer than the first week if there are test/test center discrepancies. How are any of my arguments “riddled with logical fallacies”. It’s all true. I’ve personally never seen a student who didn’t have standby not receive their scores on the first week. Furthermore, nobody at my center got their scores and yes, clearly, people across the nation haven’t received their scores. There should be SOME way for them to find out if a specific test center has been processed yet, and obviously, based on the guys response, he didn’t want to put in the effort to check. For people like you, the ACT probably won’t matter. You’re going to have a killer score regardless, plus your SAT is probably stellar. For me, even the notion of receiving a 31 is overreaching. I’ve studied hard for this final December ACT and I would have liked to show my better scores on the common app and to colleges ON TIME.

That doesnt mean anything. You are assuming that just because you received your scores on the first day in the past, you should receive them in the future, which clearly, is incorrect.

Completely untrue. Just as a counter example, my scores have taken longer than this. Dont speak definitively unless you know everyones situation, which you dont.

Whats unacceptable here is that you dont understand how to understand simple bits of information on the ACT website. Theyve clearly indicated that they have up to 8 weeks to post scores. You signed up for the test knowing this.

He shouldnt make special cases just for you or anyone else. He has rules and regulations to follow.

Again…you cant speak for the whole population just based on your test center.

No, whats ridiculous is you cant seem to understand they have 8 weeks to put up the scores.

Generalization again…

How absurd…you only seem to be thinking about yourself. Remember, you are not the only person waiting for scores- we all are.

First of all, you are assuming just from the reply he gave that he didn’t want to- you don’t know for sure. Secondly, he doesn’t even have to. If scores were not released within 8 weeks of the test date, then I would agree with you, but unfortunately, it hasn’t been 8 weeks.

unicorn4lyf is 100% right. WongTongTong stop trying to look for flaws in peoples argument just for the sake of ****ing them off. I’m gonna go out on a limb here but maybe the reason you spend 24/7 on this website and have 1700 posts is because you do this to people you actually know and they don’t like you because of it.

In the end: The ACT virtually gives all scores out that are not involved in any other matter on the 2 week mark. By your logic you are saying that it is ok for a gas station to charge someone 100$ per gallon after they see 2$ a gallon on the sign because the station has a clause that says all prices are subject to change.

Just because you think so, it must be so- of course.

I would prefer you refrain from making any derogatory comments without any concrete evidence. I was simply pointing out flaws because she asked where they were.

When we pay for gas, we see the price that we are buying it at. If its 100$ per gallon, no one would buy it…don’t be silly.

wongtongtong, you clearly have too much time on your hands…
