Overall, extremely happy with the results, and I have gotten into my top-choice school, UNC Chapel Hill. I’ve only gotten rejected from one school of the many I applied to, and it was a long shot anyways. Still waiting to hear back from several colleges.
If you have a less than stellar GPA, it’s not the end of the world! Work as hard as you can on standardized tests, essays, and extracurricular activities. It really pays off.
My younger son had a similar profile to @agc1998 two years ago and did very well with admissions. He got into schools he thought were long shots with his GPA. But like @agc1998, his scores, ECs and essays probably made up for his grades.
I think my son would be a level 5 (UW 91-92 GPA…around a 3.6- 3.7, I guess, with 6 APs), 2260 SATs, took 3 SAT2s that ranged from 760-800. His school doesn’t rank but it was probably clear from his school’s profile that he was just out of the top 10%…maybe top 11-12% of his class.
Accepted to:
-Tufts ED2 (withdrew all other apps. Attending, is thriving and loves it!)
-Tulane (with $…can’t remember precisely but around $30,000-$32,000 per year)
-UPitt
-UWisconsin (honors)(OOS)
-UMichigan (OOS)
-University of Southern California:(nominated for full tuition scholarship but he withdrew his app)
-URochester with merit $
-WUSTL (nominated for writing merit award $3000/year…withdrew app)
-UCLA (OOS, he had withdrawn his app but somehow got accepted anyway)
Withdrew his apps from Johns Hopkins, UPenn & Emory.
According to his school naviance, because of his GPA, brown, tufts & WUSTL, USC, UCLA & Michigan were reaches, some more than others. I think the factors other than GPA tipped him in to the schools, with the exception of brown.
@RenaissanceMom I’m still waiting to hear back from a lot of private schools that only offered ED, most of them long shots. The only school I have gotten denied from is UVA, but that wasn’t a surprise considering I am out of state and my essays were below average for them imho. However, I got into UNC so that’s where I will probably end up.
I’m in the top 11% or 12% of my class and I applied to Ivies My subject tests aren’t good either but my SATs are good, my ECs are good and my essays are really good… Hoping for a miracle
Am I screwed lol
I have some old chance threads under my name if anybody wants to go check them out
Yeah I guess so. I’m thinking I would be a level 5 but I’m not sure. My weighted average is a 98 but there’s a lot of weight on it so even though my school doesn’t calculate unweighted GPA I’m thinking mine would be like in the 88-92 range. I had a huge dip in junior year due to illness
