The "I Got in without a 3.7+ GPA" club

Where are ratings for threads shown?

@freakchild12 Dont worry about your gpa. If you have strong ECs and at least a 1500 on the new SAT you are still on the race to get into a very competitive school.

3.45 UC UW GPA
3.6 UW GPA after mid-year report

University of Michigan
Boston College
University of Texas(McCombs)
UC Berkeley(!)

You never know! Granted I had a 33 ACT but I’m 100% positive it was my LOR and essays that got me in

@Decently you are my idol right now :))

UChicago
Note: Had >2300 SAT w/near perfect senior report

@imadeitsomehow that is so great, congrats!! Are you by chance a URM? And did you have any C’s on your transcript? Asking because I’m in a similar situation. What do you think accounted for the GPA (essays, letter of recs, etc)?

3.5 Core class UW, 3.9 core class W
4.7W senior year first semester gpa

@ZBlue17
Yes to both actually.
I knew the GPA would be a major issue so made sure every other element was top notch- I think ECs and essays played a big role.
Best of luck to you.

He had very strong EC’s

@Momofmrb congrats to your son! What were his ECs?

Thanks @ZBlue17! He’s very happy. EC’s were: FTC Robotics (leadership Jr./Sr. year), chess club (leadership 3 years), physics club (leadership 3 years), math team, school paper, local volunteering since 8th grade, 911 Memorial (NYC) volunteering last summer. Nothing national award-y, but still pretty strong.

Bump…

level 5 - waitlisted at Penn and Columbia. Not an acceptance but better than expected with my grades lol

level 5: berkeley, usc, rice, nyu

Believe it or not, level 1 (or lower) in high school and level 4 (3.4) first semester of college, and got waitlisted at UVA. I always thought it was a mistake lol.

I’ll post again now that everything’s in.
