The "I Got in without a 3.7+ GPA" club

Oh, I should add, what also hurts him, I believe, is the California schools don’t include 9th grade or any of 12th grade, all which were straight A’s for him.

Hi everyone. I just want to add in that I got accepted to SJSU a few days ago for Marine Biology. CSU GPA is 3.21. SAT is 1160 (new). Even though it’s not a competitive school, I thought it’d be a high reach for me considering that I wasn’t local to the area, and that all majors are impacted at the campus. My GPA is also significantly below SJSU’s average for freshman applicants. I’m glad I have a backup school in case anything goes wrong, so I won’t have to resort to a CC. Good luck to those still waiting for their decisions! Never give up.

@jesse’sgirl I’m on the same boat as your son. Freshman and senior year grades are great, but my sophomore and junior year grades were a major downfall for me due to severe and unique family circumstances. I also see on the SJSU thread that he got accepted. Congrats to him!

Level 3 (GPA:2.60) Got accepted to Utica College and Universtiy at Albany. Currently, have two Ds on the transcript. I’m taking one of the classes I have a D on which is calculus 1. My other class is Organic Chemistry 1.

I’m a transfer applicant.

Update since my last post:

UW GPA: 3.11-3.2
ACT: 31, 32 superscored

acceptances:
UIUC
CSUF
CSULB
CSUN

rejections: none

What program are you majoring in?

level 4 (3.1)
got into Rutgers, Cu Boulder, and penn state UP, all engineering

there is hope yes

Level 5: ~3.5 unweighted. My school doesn’t weight.

Accepted into: Alabama, Clemson, Delaware, Ohio State, UMD, Penn State, NC State, Purdue, UF, UMich

My 11th school is Washington U of St. Lewis. It’s probably about to crush my 1000 batting average, but that’s ok. I’m pretty psyched about my choices.

What major? @TriplePress and congrats! Where ya thinking of going?

D is Level 4 at college prep boarding school.

Accepted at Marquette, Guilford, and Denison (EDII)

Deferred at Tulane, Fordham, Elon. Withdrew apps at Skidmore and Drexel after receiving ED acceptance

Ah dang, misspelled St. Louis. Hope their admissions people don’t find this thread haha

@c011e9e My major is Human Computer Interaction, which is like Comp Sci, Marketing, and Psychologically thrown into a blender. Not really sure which to pick yet. I’m leaning towards Michigan right now. That said, the warm weathers of Florida look pretty enticing right about now, and NC State seems like a really nice, comfortable place, and close to home. Tough choices. Anyway thank you, it’s been a wild ride

My daughter has an 89 Cumulative GPA (unweighted, several AP’s, things like PE are not included) and a 29 ACT from a top NYS public high school (consistently ranked in top 100 nationally).

She’s our third child and we went into this looking for the best school for her - not to get her into the best school she could get into. So, basically small liberal arts schools in a 3-3.5 hour radius from our home as she’s undecided on her major.

We applied to too many (12). Big mistake - she hasn’t been rejected yet. Having two older children go through the process, we figured why not cast a wide net. We didn’t know what schools were looking for and it seemed like more applications were free than the last time we went through this process.

Accepted to:

Allegheny College (merit)
Elmira College (merit)
Hobart and William Smith Colleges (merit)
Ithaca College (merit)

tried to proofread my comment a lot but i spelled the school name wrong :frowning:

Hi, I’m reading along on this thread but am experiencing some confusion since I jumped in at the middle. What are the different levels indicating (ie- level 5?)

@vandygrad87

Level 1: < 2.00
Level 2: 2.0-2.5
Level 3: 2.5-3.0
Level 4: 3.0-3.4
Level 5: 3.4-3.7

-from the beginning of the thread

@Faultystart - thank you very much!

I don’t have an unweighted average of 3.7+. I have a 3.3 (Level 4)–otherwise known as an 88. I do, however, have a weighted average of 3.73 (92.3) so i’m not sure if this counts…

I got into Geneseo, UB, New Paltz and Adelphi so far. I’m still waiting on Binghamton and Stony Brook.

I got a 29 on my ACT so that might’ve helped me.

My school also doesn’t send the unweighted GPA so I’m not sure if that benefits me?..

oh yeah, an additional note to any of my comments i’ve made–i’t’s totally fine with me if you want to ask abt the more subjective parts of my app

lvl 5 (3.65, 35 act)

in at:

Cal Poly Pomona
Cal Poly SLO
CSUF
UCSD
Likely letter from UCLA
Georgia Tech

top is probably SLO or anywhere where I can get merit aid
