The 'I live at home' 15

Did anyone else manage to put on a few lbs over the last 2 years? I know this seems ridiculous but there are plenty of reasons for us to put on a few pounds after high school.

I can (not so) proudly say I did, went up from 158 to 167 over the course of the last 2 years.

Largely due to apathy, somewhat due to a breakup with my (2 years) girlfriend, somewhat due to lack of time, somewhat due to lack of motivation, and lastly due to my job at a restaurant.

Now, I’m setting this up on CC as a reality check to all of us to get back in shape before Fall '10!

i was in the best shape of my life summer of 09. 164lbs. now im like 173ish i intend to get back to it. :(

i go up and down in between working out, playing club sports, and partying. beer gets to ya after a few straight weekends in a row.

well my freshman year of college, I was 135 and I hit 145lbs… sophomore year I hit 150, but lost weight during the summer(I wasn’t working out and ate whatever I felt like) then I met some chick and love and ******** and my eating kind of stopped a bit so I went down to 135… then I got crushed and ate like a madman(7000 calories a day) and got up to a really shredded 155… I’m about 145 right now, I’ve lost some weight. Strength and endurance ARE up though so that’s good. I think if I started eating for mass again, and I took creatine again(which causes water retention) I could hit 155 again. It’d be nice.

by the way, I’m a gym addict with an incredibly fast metabolism. I’m up from 100lbs. before you ***** about gaining weight, think about those who struggle for it and work their asses off for it only to be screwed over by genetics. I wish I didn’t have to eat to the point where I’m physically uncomfortable just to maintain my weight.

this is basically where i’ve regressed to at the moment

pics a bit old, since then, my arms and thighs shrunk a little and my chest, back and shoulders grew a bit

while I’m at it and done with my borderline ■■■■■■■■/ranting about my weight
http://bodybuilding.com/</a>
check out their forums. Make it a life style(one which you can half ass admittedly)
big things
fats and carbs should be avoided in the same meal(insulin released to deal with the sugar promotes fat gain)
(or a crazy amount of carbs in a single meal as excess carbs are converted to lipds)
carboload AFTER workouts(insulin helps the body build muscle)
HIGH INTENSITY, shorter duration and less frequent. Emphasis on intensity. If you’re doing it right, you should start tearing up. I’ve actually made myself cry
AVOID INJURIES. Pain is bad unless it’s your standard run of the mill muscular fatigue pain.

for the record, I’ve put on 50lbs in the last few years overall(I was 5’9" 100lbs in highschool and the constant victim of anorexia jokes despite eating more than most)

i’ve lost weight since high school :\ i tend to lose weight when i stop exercising/playing sports and gain weight when i do…somewhat odd i guess since i’m mostly a runner…

we’re both classic ectomprphs.
very lean and lanky, always very thing, light appetite, but capable of eating like a beast when food is in front of us…

running and other physical activity makes us more hormonally active. More hormones = more hunger. More hunger = more calories consumed.

(I’m guessing here)basically, our bodies are so busy making triiodinethyronine and tetraiodinethyronine that they don’t have much of a propensity to produce testosterone and other androgens. In compensation, we’re super sensitive to these androgens. This is part of the reason why smaller guys tend to respond a bit better to anabolic steroids than your guys with average or large builds(well percentage of bodyweight gained at least) Your more typical person is generally going to be producing LESS t3 and t4 and more test, dht and other androgens.

^that would explain a lot lol, i am lean and lanky, always thin, have a light appetite most of the time and can eat A LOT of food lol…though maybe it’s a good thing i’m no longer involved in physical activity, apparently i have (or had, it has lessened a lot lately for what i thought was no discernible reason till this lol) too much testosterone which causes my hair to bald XD lol

testosterone doesn’t make you bald. dihydrogentestosterone(DHT) does.

some advice, if you have the balding gene and you’re a guy, you’ll go bald eventually, just shave your head and get on with life. Trust me when I say this, the ladies prefer a bald guy with a great body over a twig with some hair who is trying to hide the fact that he’s loosing it.

oh lol, i didn’t realize there was a distinction between the hormones, guess i didn’t really care too much XD, and i’m a sikh so i have long hair that i can’t cut lol, but the baldness gets covered underneath a turban :] lol, darn balding gene…

Props to you for sticking to your guns and going with what you believe, I respect that. Turban does mask the problem… I’d never thought of that.

I think I have the baldness gene as well but I’m not certain (most guys in my family were victims at an early age, save for one uncle who got lucky) my dad’s hair is gone, was waning since his 20s and I think my hairline is receding to a degree but i might be imagining it.

[Body Type Information - Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph](http://www.bodybuildingpro.com/bodytypeinformation.html)

I basically follow the description of the first one. i’m a little under 5’10" and I’ve had people say that in my photos I look like I’m 6’+

only thing i’d argue is that endomorphs gain muscle more easily than mesomorphs.

Frankly, I’m really similar. 5’6 and 120. I’ve always been pretty small, and I can eat more than anyone I know within 60 pounds of my weight. As a small example, I had a burger, full steak (med-rare), fries, and a huge choc. shake for dinner last night lol.

Honestly I’ve only done swim team (which is really amazing exercise), but it definitely didn’t get me bigger. I hate working out lol. How does one sort of ease into a workout routine and what type of workout routine would you recommend?

1 pick up weights
2 lift them
3 ???
4 profit!!!

seriously though, I started when I was 16 at the urging of some friends(I think there was a bet going around) and I got addicted. If you want an easy way to start out, get a 10lbs weight, and just do simple curls. do as many as you can until you can’t do any more. Don’t worry about diet, just eat a lot. You might be slightly incapacitated(my arms were shaking horribly as I was doing this, this is usually a sign of your nervous system not being adapted to such neurological stress) and I was in pain for several days but I was AMAZED. I literally saw my arms grow almost over night(BIG difference in just 1 week) I’m sure I was an anomaly(puberty hadn’t given me muscle but I had a lot of deferred and latent development.

so the best way to get started… just do basic exercises. I’d suggest bicep curls. maybe do some tricep overhead extensions. after a week if you’re liking it and you’re excited and wanting more, come back to me and I’ll lend a hand.

I went from 117 to 130 ish within the past 3 years (size 4/6/8 back to 8/10-ish). Not cool. Thanks for reminding me, I have a ballet conditioning DVD I’m gonna do today :)

UGH ME. Hahaha
I lost weight when I moved up to LA and cooked for myself. I had a gym at my apartment and I played beach volleyball all the time. But I moved back home recently and I’ve been gaining weight. I blame my mama’s cookin.

I’m really looking into getting Insanity or something. HAHA

@audioslavery
What’s kinda funny is you mentioned how you put on weight b/c apathy when your gf left you. For me, it was the opposite. I’m 6’3" and started at 285 last September when my gf of 2 years (as well) left me. I couldn’t sleep so I would work out until I was so tired I couldn’t stay awake. Combined with eating healthy, I just stepped on the scale this morning at the “light” weight of 230.

Another 20 lbs and I’ll be happy, but my point is, don’t ever let a girl ruin you. You should leave every relationship a better, smarter person than you were when you entered it.

ETA:
Funny, you work at a restaurant… I work at Panera Bread haha. All those sweets are so tempting everyday… Saying no the first time is hard, and it gets progressively easier every time thereafter ;]

Working at a food place sucks. I worked at Jamba Juice for a little bit. I thought I would be so freakin healthy but I still gained weight. I started drinking the healthy stuff but soon figured out that the peanut butter mood smoothie was the best.

@xelink
What kind of supps do you take?

multivitamin and a lot of water are the main supplements.

secondary supplement would be creatine(which is the only thing actually scientifically proven to be of some value)

diet matters more than supplementation… by a lot. My diet sucks, that’s why my weight has largely stagnated. I’m making strength gains, and I’m getting leaner and more muscular but i could be a lot more efficient about it.

I remember watching this Ron Coleman training video and remember one thing specifically. He loved chicken, and when I say he loved chicken, I mean he LOVED CHICKEN!!!

@xelink what are your thoughts on no-xplode? i hear its great for workout pump but im not too comfortable supplementing outside of your usual whey. im on a cut phase right now. im trying to get down to 160 low bf%. Im sitting at about 168ish right now.
ps. im 6 ft. so its not too bad.

tried no-xplode I like it… I feel I’d get better results by spending $60 more on food.

do love the hard boners it gives me though. I’d consider it more for taking tests than for weight lifting, it really improves bloodflow and this increases cognitive capacity too and with all the caffeine in it, it helps counteract my ADHD surprisingly well.

for lifting though, again, food.

and ronnie coleman is a BEAST.
