The Import of legacy in succeeding in business

I was talking to my uncle the other day and he asked me what I planned on majoring in. I told him it’s Environmental Policy Analysis right now, but I’d like to go into business and maybe transfer into a T-15 business school.

In response to this he said I should just stick with the Enviro major and maybe go into law because without coming from a rich family I don’t have much chance of reaching the elite world of business, i.e. $700k+, regardless of what school I go to.

So is this true? That I will be stuck at a sub 100k-200k salary because I don’t come from money? Realistically.

Because you know, $200k per annum is a worthless salary, and you would make much much more with that Enviro major.

As for me, I have a rich uncle.

lol ok maybe I was being a little headstrong and full of it with that original post. Lets change those numbers:

From that:

$700k+ ----> $400k+
$100k-200k -------> $100k

Your uncle is completely wrong. People come from nothing to succeed in business everyday.

let me know if you ever even make a 100k hotshot

Dumb kids.

Much of business is about networking. It’s not absurd to suggest those that come from wealthier backgrounds have better contacts at their disposal. But that can be overcome.

I really didn’t mean to be so arrogant. I would love to make 100k a year and am definitely not scoffing at a 6 figure salary. I’d just like to know my chances at something over that because my uncle (same one) said if I were to become a doctor I could easily make 150k+ out of med school and with some luck make 250k like him. So I’m a little worried that if I go the business route, realistically, I would never make over 100k.

What does your uncle do? He is completely wrong.
