The importance of music/performing arts/etc.?

Columbia is my dream school, but I don’t play any musical instruments nor do I have an acting background or really anything creative besides writing. I was wondering if anyone currently attending Columbia (or an alumni) could offer some insight on how many of their classmates play(ed) musical instruments or act(ed).

Lots of people don’t play a musical instrument or act in plays, and they get in. The creative arts aren’t the only talent that can make an applicant stand out. (Actually writing is a pretty special hook)

^^ maybe half do and half don’t, but a smaller proportion have actually achieved a lot with music and performing arts, jut like there is a small proportion who achieve something significant in speech and debate. I had one (significant) activity which was performance based, and I didn’t achieve any high level of anything in it. it is by no means required to get in.

Okay, thanks for the reassurance!

I’m tone-deaf and beginning orchestra was the only B I ever got between grades 6 and 12, yet I still got in.
