The Indian Thread #21

I wouldn’t know Crystal, I’m in India right now :p

There aren’t any requirements as such, except the [usual SAT scores, good academics and so on. Also, don’t be befuddled by the A-G requirement. It is basically there to ensure that students have studied all kinds of subjects in high school. Even if you don’t meet the A-G criteria, the University of California makes it extremely easy for all kinds of students to apply through different easy”>http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/freshman/requirements/examination/index.html]easy eligibility criteria](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/freshman/requirements/index.html).

Also, each campus of the UC has different colleges and different admissions rates. However, since you are only interested in Berkeley, here are links to this years admissions numbers in an easy to read format:

Admission”>http://www.ucop.edu/news/factsheets/2012/fall_2012_admissions_table2.pdf]Admission Rate for International Students in Fall 2012 to Berkeley was 12.4%/url

Also, the overall admit rate for the college of engineering this year was 13.2%

The UCs aren’t like MIT in their application policies. In fact, the University of California doesn’t have an early application options. Once the application opens in October(?), the common deadline is on the 30th of November. So everyone applies at the same time.

I think everybody knows mine too :stuck_out_tongue: My previous chance threads ;)

@tizil my bad i thought u were already in us :stuck_out_tongue: when do you plan to reach there though?
and thanks alot for explaaining the procedure!!

If I qualify for instate in Berkeley it will be zoo cool :D

Oh, the misery of being an Indian citizen seeking huge FA.
In-state fee for Berkley is like 10K

I know right? -.- I wish I was still a resident of CA. :O

UCSD is practically on a beach. OMG :stuck_out_tongue:
I liked UCB’s architecture and the feel of campus, pretty similar to that of Stanford. Tiz, you can’t go any wrong with the decision. Stanford, with its spanish architecture and gigantic campus is one of the most awesome places I have ever been to( that means a lot, the things I have seen  )

MIT, on the other hand, I did not like. So, people applying to MIT, I suggest you to go visit the place before making a decision( that includes an admission decision, after you get accepted).

Does ANY of the UC gives FA to internationals?
I know they give the scholarships, but they amount to a maximum of $4-5K.

I heard Santa bArbara campus does. Does any?

My cousin is attending UCSD this fall  lucky her.

Aaand mrinal, I found a huge difference between the atmosphere in Stanford and that in Berkeley. Maybe it was the sheer size difference, for Stanford seems more open, peaceful
Berkeley seems very enthusiatic-a big crowd lots of energy.of course this is just my opinion but what did you think?

Really ?? Maybe Stanford seemed more energetic because it was the 4th of July :stuck_out_tongue: Should have choosed the day to visit better ;)

Sigh.
So the most interesting discussion had surface when I am away.

The more I read about colleges, the more opinions I develop. I might as well ED instead of SCEA.

Is anyone else here applying to ASU ?? I am ;)

^ My cousin is doing his PhD there but told me that its not that good as for UG

I would be getting my both sat score in mid Dec, but can i still submit my C App in mid Nov( with sat 2 & toefl score) ?
or it will have disadvantage or even might be treated as incomplete

If you apply RD, it is fine. You need to get your scores by October if you want to apply EA.

We can’t use November SAT Scores with Rushed Scores for EA/ED?

How about October ACT?

yeah mrinal  maybe another day.

What’s asu?

even though the colleges recommend the completion of all testing before november, they do, as a matter of fact, accept november scores.

how are the essays coming along for you’ll?
also, if any 16’er can explain, does the submission of an extra supplement essay for Harvard give you an edge even though the essay might not necessarily delineate anything of particular consequence?

Anvesh, never rush your SATs because the college you are rushing them to will process the scores in the same order in which it recieves them. So at the back of the line. Save money. Most schools accept November SATs for the EA/ED round.

North, google, ASU girls.

Adi, most will also accept January scores. Also, maybe. I can’t give you an opinion without seeing the said essay. If it’s a last minute total hackjob, better not send it in. If not, then at the very least, you show enthusiasm towards the school and that may trump you over a clone. AFAIK, Harvard doesn’t have optional essays, so you will have to send in that supplement essay.

So I met a friend going to MIT this fall and we were talking about the campuses. Confirming, MIT doesn’t have the best campus. Be real now, who’s looking at campus beauty while applying? :p
