Hi guys, I’m an applicant from Kolkata, applying for Economics to all 8 Ivies, Stanford, MIT, Northwestern, UChicago, Duke, Vanderbilt, USC, UC Berkeley, UCSD, Amherst, Williams, Swarthmore.
SAT 1: 2380 (M:800, CR:800, W:780)
SAT 2: Math Level 2: 800, Physics 800
GPA: 4.0
@Kashallover Are you applying for Financial Aid? If not, then you have a great chance at all the need aware institutes. And why did you give SAT physics?
@rohit7198 I’m applying for FinAid everywhere, but I’m a US citizen, so most institutions are need blind for me. And I I decided that SAT Math II, Physics, and Chem (770) were well within my syllabus, so there was very little additional preparation required for giving the exams. Besides, there really isn’t much of a correlation between economics and any SAT Subject test. I was contemplating giving Literature, but decided against it, which I now look back at as a good decision.
@rohit7198 your ecs are really impressive.
If there are any MIT applicants out here who have received an interview pls comment. I am becoming a bit restless
@hezekiel International applicants have selective interviews. My citizenship only affects the financial aid decisions. Academics and otherwise, I’m an international applicant.
No.I know of other US citizens who have received an interview way before their Indian classmates. Also, it is slightly easier for US citizens to get into MIT, because a medal is not necessary, compared to Indians for whom it is a crucial factor. (Few exceptions)
@Prabhu1998 Penn sends LLs in two batches one in mid-Feb and the other in early march. Don’t sweat it though, if you got an interview from Penn, you may have a slight edge.
PS I got my LL before my interview, so not sure.
And congratulations for UT Austin, which major?
And did u apply for FA at Penn?
I’m applying as an international student from India (Economics major) and Umass Amherst is my first choice. (Already accepted to University at Buffalo, Albany and San Diego State University) My SAT score is 1740 - CR 600, M 570, WR 570. My percentage has been consistent at about 80-84% over the last 3 years. I attend an ISC board school.
I have a month of work experience and I represented my school at the State level in soccer and chess. I also have strong essays. What are my chances of getting into Umass Amherst and will they give me a scholarship? (I haven’t applied separately for any)
As a current UMass Amherst student, I’m can’t guarantee you that you will get in. The average M+CR SAT at this school will likely be above 1225. (You have a 1170) This being said, I’m not sure how they will view your GPA. They may look at it quite well and take you in since you say you have strong essays. Unfortunately, UMass is very picky with awarding these so I wouldn’t be insulted with low aid given since you are an international student.

Essays: CommonApp was very personal. Related it to being a superhero in my own way with my fascination with quantum physics and a very personal incident in my life.
Recs: Waived FERPA. But every recommender of mine knows me extremely well. The one from my dance teacher was apparently phenomenal.
