~asaatvik : *“ok my MyMIT page says there is no EC assigned to ur area. Is this b/c I have given a Gurgaon address? I’m pretty sure Delhi has an EC
Should I write to MIT? BTW, I haven’t filed my app yet and intend to do it only in Dec. so does that mean I can’t schedule an interview right now?” *

asaatvik, if your interview has been waived by MIT, then it will not affect your chances of admission at MIT in any way. On the other hand, if they allot you an interviewer and still you wish to not give your interview, then also it will not alter much your chances of admission.

But having an interview may be good, if you are very sociable and have fun meeting people, esp people of unexpected nature and interests. Your MIT interviewer may turn out to be of some nature and interests you may not be expecting to meet.

Last year, Adides got busted by his MIT interviewer. At least that’s what he told me when I met him at Bombay. But I had a very good time during my MIT interview. My interviewer really grilled me on some recent research developments. But I did not give up, because I had read some of its earlier developments in Nature, Physics Review and New Scientist. So he was a bit impressed and said that very few people know such things. So, I immediately grasped what my interviewer was checking. When I later met Adides and Flamethrower, I discussed a part of it with them as well. You can get some details here :

To schedule an interview at MIT, you need not have to file your application.

I do not know about the interview of other universities, so if you have any details, please do forward them to me. You can PM them.

A COPY OF THIS WILL BE PMed TO asaatvik.

SHABIN

cool shabin ./…this wud go a long way to help us all…

Thanks Smarty!

I do not know about the interview of other universities, so if you have any details, please do forward them to me. You can PM them.

SHABIN

hey dude you are scaring me now…(for Shabin).
What the hell is this… I thought the interview would be on general topics…if my interviewer also corners me on something I dont know what the hell is gonna happen.
Well I am interviewing in December so I’ll read a lot on MIT’s website.

I guess no one really knows about any colleges with proper scholarships for intels… I think its basically your luck… i mean on DPS RKP link we even have people getting scholarships from UC Berk which explicitily says that they dont I repeat dont give any form of scholarship or financial aid to International Students.

But then there are a whole lot who announce that they do give … Which are known based on previous yrs experiance…
U cant take risks of applying to nonaid giving colleges as it is expensive

If you know any such please share with me also. I really have no clue about the safeties.

Shabin and all the dudes from 09 batch tell me what should I carry along with me to the interview.

i am searching for the last 5 days and hav found really no true safety…

Let me seee trying to contact previous yr ppl who can help me there

Also i had just cut down on all lacs due to non availability of BS degree

Yeah me too. I thought about amherst and all but then I Think its better taking an year off than going to a college which will change your major.

I have found one safety University of Dallas. You too work hard and lets see if we have some of them in our hands till December.

absolutely… will tell u and all here the moment i find one…

WE are here to help…and will do so …

SM

hey do you know anyone apart from Pranay Sinha (The MIT 09’er) who took an year off and got to a elite college in US.(obviously on financial aid)

~smartmind :* “WE are here to help…and will do so …”*

That’s the spirit which kept people glued here last year. They may be gone off to different places, but the spirit lives on…

** INTERVIEWS **

~vampiro : "I thought the interview would be on general topics…if my interviewer also corners me on something I dont know what the hell is gonna happen.

I am sorry vampiro, I did not intend to scare anybody.
I was fully at peace during my interview despite my interviewer’s asking a lot of scientific and technical questions. I was quite comfortable with such questions than many other types. They check your attitude and aptitude. And those two are the final words in it :** ATTITUDE & APTITUDE FOR SCEINCE & MATHEMATICS **.
If you don’t have it enough, chances are that they will see through you more during the interview than while reading your resume.

One more thing : I only know things directly from my interview for MIT on Nov 14, 2oo4. In fact my interviewer got a bit interested talking to me and he extended the interview by a few minutes, around 30-40 minutes (I don’t remember the exact amount of time because I did not notice it then), by keeping another interviewee waiting outside, downstairs!

Though I enjoyed my interview, my friend Adides had a tough time during his MIT interview. But he had excellent interviews for other places. In fact he is a more experienced person on interviews than me because of the sheer quantity of interviews he had and the various types of interviews and interviewers he had, from MIT kind to the extremely fun kinds.
So, I suggest that you catch him, and others, up and get him give inputs to you here on CC about the interviews he had.

~vampiro : *Well I am interviewing in December so I’ll read a lot on MIT’s website." *

My interviewer asked nothing directly out of the MIT site. It seems that he is as intelligent as you, for your reading a lot from the MIT site and his asking so less from the MIT.
My interviewer asked very general questions, though specific to recent developments in science, or the developments in the last 10 to 20 years, the kind of things not taught in schools and unknown to many.

SHABIN

.

Btw, where are you now shabin?

tell me who was your interviewer Shabin…and these days adides does not come here often so its hard to get a response for him.
Shabin do you have any safeties and are you applying early anywhere.

Shabin I am on yahoo messenger right now…why are you not replying to my messages.

hey…is dec 8 too late to give my toefl???

I dont think so…The score usually is out in 5 weeks (actually before) if you write your essay and it takes only 3 weeks if you type. It should be well in time.
Whats your yahoo id

sachit_gupta50■■■■■■.com … But i rarely come online on that. Do u have hotmail or gmail???
