<p>Guys I am looking forward to some ideas of how to spend my months of september and october and november (apart from my studies and regular EC’s like computer’s and music) That might look nice on my applications. Like any competitions or something.
Also please tell me whether it is a good bet to apply ED to UPenn (I mean does any one get aid there at all…or just the f ing letter that “if you don’t apply for aid you have good chances”).

Well people said that typing looks good…but the adcomms have told me that they do not have a preference.
I suggest that your part of application you should send online. and the school report,reccs and all be sent via mail (as it is you don’t have an option of sending them online)…coz usually there is no such stipulation as typing or printing on these forms.
Now for the school report usually students from India send in the photocopies of all their results separately after getting the stamped.But the method which you have described is one which I have used. (Though in my case my school has given me grades rather than the conventional marks)+I am sending my photocopy of class Xth and XIIth(as soon as available).So you try to do the same thing.</p>
<p>Lastly, No I am not from Delhi. I live in Dehra Dun. This is the only application that I have got apart from the supplement of Washingto Univ in St Louis</p>

<p>Yep…I am done with one of my major essays.Hope to write three or four more (and recycle them…as they can be easily done).Have gotten my counsellor recc,One teacher recc.

<p>dunno about if it “helps”, but you can definately mention it on your resume. I invest and i mentioned it (so did my brother). Im going to duke (in three days!!!) which is one of the schools u mentioned u were applying to.</p>
<p>I thk it’s a good idea to mention it- it’ll atleast separate you from the hordes of students who look exactly the same (archtypically- interested in comps, topped school, EC’s: scinece fairs, quiz competitions, essay: how they helped some unfortunate person/ some fictional piece of charity work.)</p>
<p>investing on the market will show that atleast u pay attention to whats going on outside of the textbook…</p>

<p>Another recommendation: SEND EXTRA MATERIAL!!! I’ve noticed that nearly ALL the MIT acceptees (atleast) sent in some kind of extra stuff. Art work, some comp projects, some really cool stuff (for eg, Oh!Laila sent in some of her henna designs which I think is really creative - something adcoms really appreciate), reports etc. I do think it shows that extra dedication and it also shows that you’re serious about your stuff. But make sure you don’t go overboard.</p>
<p>Another thing about the essays, show it to as many ppl as you can. You’ll be surprised as to how much your friends (including ppl applying to the same colleges as you :p) can help improve your essay. Also be careful about how you write your EC’s etc, phrase them properly. Make them crisp as well as detailed enough so that the adcom gets a good idea of your contribution.</p>
