The Indian Thread (TiT) # 14

I dont think Indians benefit from AP’s (especially ones giving them now as they are held just once in the month of may…so there is no chance the adcomms will get the score).
The cost is $82 per exam(rest contact the specific school for registration charge)

Thank u Smartmind

No thanks… we must all help each other

Thats why we r here…CHEERS! :)

:):):):):)

smartmind on the thing u said abt SAT II subjects, I just checked the req of each colege and no one requires 3 sat II subjects…harvard & mit are the only ones but iam not applying to them…

Rightly stated !

.

for sat II’s here are my suggestions of books

Math IIc >>> Princeton Review + Barrons + sparknotes online tests
Physics >>> Princeton Review + Kaplan + sparknotes online tests

Barrons physics sucks big time, dont buy it.

no idea abt barrons physics but for sat1 it is gr8

Barron’s for SAT IMO is overkill. Do it after you’ve prepped according to real SAT standards for extra practice - don’t waste too much time on it otherwise.

Just my $.02

trust me…dont waste ur money on barrons physics…it is totally off the mark. it even has extra stuff which doesnt even come in the exam.

in my opinion, anything for satII math2c and physics is overkill. especially since some of you said you’ve been preparing for the jee (i’m assuming you’re actually learning the stuff and not doing what most of the country’s been doing…)

EDIT : of course, thats probably just my skewed perspective of things…

shashank you cynic you :p

But yeah if you’ve studied any kind of Physics in 11-12 then you don’t need to do anything for SAT II which is really really infantile in its level of difficulty.

I didn’t study for IIT so I had to do some extra prep for Mat IIC but it wasn’t very hard. Anyway, don’t use Barron’s for this since from what I can see it doesn’t even relate remotely to the stuff that actually comes up in the test.

so from where exactly should one do the SAT II practice from??

SAT 2 practice can be done from other standard books like Princeton Reveiw, etc… they are gud as they portray the real standard…

I am yet to see sat2 physics syllabus deeply and if what u ppl say is true i will have some ease in its preparation

what i will never understand is why people think they have to study separately for every exam they write. the laws of physics are the same for cbse, for the jee, and for the satii. imo, you just need to study the fudamental properly, be it for school, for the jee (i know the pattern has changed-this was what i would have said before…) or for the sat.

the satii has a little extra stuff in waves when compared to cbse, if i remember correctly (the ntu exam did…), while the rest is pretty much the same. if you dont believe me, try one of the respectable sample tests - im sure you can find them somewhere and see how hard it is.

Yes, i agree partially .but whatever it be practice with sample questions is always a must before the exam to make ones strategies and tricks… and isn’t it better if one practices these physical objects from a sat book to score better in sat or any exam for that sense whatsoever

smartmind i totally agree…although we all know the fundamentals we have to tune their usage so as to maximise our score…

And this does not mean we know not the basics but just that we wanna polish them…
