Dammit! Dammit!

Well, I guess I’ll pull a Hiro and Teleport 5 Weeks into the Future! :D

Yeah, I suppose so. Nothing can beat the number of the beast. Hehehe…

I bet you will love it

Wooo, you lot post quite a bit when I’m off on the phone (what can I say, it was a lovely conversation. The Platonic ideal carrot! :D).

To summarise my responses in no especial order:

Yes, I do think I’d be a bit of a Ravenclaw. Not to brag or anything, but books + me = sort of romantic, in a way.

I’m not very different on CC than I am in real life, although I’m probably more awkward when not behind the safe anonymity of my computer. I am quite introverted in general, though. Probably a bit more amusing online, since I have the chance to think about what I’m saying. Less geeky. ;)

& I appreciate this thread rather. As you lot have said, finding like-minded Indians is pretty dashed cool.

I like Rand, have read only very little Saki but like what I have done (“It’s all right, I’m coming back as an otter!” or words to that effect), have a slight anti-Kafka bias due to the very concept of ‘Metamorphosis’ freaking me out back when I was eleven. I don’t have a favourite author, I fluctuate too much. Loving the new Susanna Clarke book, though; also, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, and Douglas Adams are all brilliant. And ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’, which everyone ought read. And – I’ll shut up now.

Also, I’m uncertain whether I ought confess the extent of time I’ve spent on Mugglenet.

And I’m still trying to get my hands on Heroes 18. Glee.

I dislike some of what Rand has to say; found her to be too self serving (I’m a tad humanitarian in my views :D)… Does anyone read Robert Jordan? (not very intellectual, but what I’d call a good long read. (11 books published so far, each at least 1000 page +)

Speaking of intellectual books, I did come across a collection of essays by 19th century philosophers, (something like a 60 year old book, literally falling to pieces every time I open it), very stimulating read, although exceedingly dry. (Its taken me two months to read 60 odd pages, of course there is that little matter of a few exams that has been occupying just a little of my time! :))

Oh, I don’t agree with all of Rand’s ideas, but they’re usually a cracking good read, and very interesting. (And then I suppose I’m not much of a humanitarian, to be honest. Bit too conceited re. intellectualism for that.)

I don’t read Robert Jordan, although I have considered it. My parents usually refuse to buy me gigantic books, though (my hardback copy of the Lord of the Rings is an exception! And I spent pretty much all my scholarship money on it, too.).

One of the wierder qualities to book shops in Dubai’s that you’ll find huge books at prices far lesser than thin ones, (probably as no one’s ever bothered to lug them off the shelves), (course you can only find a good bargain for books in India).

I can just feel another book discussion brewing :)

Bargain? Ye gods. I can never afford to buy all that I want to buy. (Of course, Parents tend to budget me, which is the main reason.) I spent Rs. 2700 on hardback LotR, which is the most I’ve ever blown on a book; generally run up a bill of at least Rs. 1500 on book-buying day (latest bookshop-spree included a Beatles album and a Pink Floyd one, so the bill was a bit exponential, but eh.)

Anyway, that rule definitely doesn’t hold here. Huge books cost money. ;)

I hardly ever buy books in dubai, wait for when I land up in India and raid the streets/shops, I tend to buy in Delhi (that’s where I normally go) or Bangalore.

2700 for LoTR? (I was talking of bargains as in on the streets ;))

Ah. Street-bargains are great, although the sort of books I love (viz. obscure!) are hard to find there (they do a great Wodehouse, though).

And what can I say? I’m a money-waster when I really covet something. Pity the same can’t extend to college. (But it’s such a pretty book! With fold-out maps and all!)

To bed with me, now (not an exam day, I can sleep a tad!); g’night, all! (Try not to break the Internet while I’m gone?)

Oh and a friend of mine just got into IUB Bremen!

We’ll try Noldo, we’ll try :)

I’ll add to the convo just for the sake of it. The last book I read was The Afghan by Forsyth. Excellent book. I don’t read much as it pull me from my school work as I get too obsessed into the book (if its good), if you know what I mean.

Yes an exam day, I can’t sleep much at all. Well 6 hours, which is positively luxurious by MIT standards, but just about moderate for me. :)

Oh and the guy, my friend got a 5000 Euro Scholarship as well, which is nice (I’m beginning to get a bit hot under the collar here though, the 29th can’t come too soon. Though the 17th can wait, even if that may seem oxymoronic :))

I only read books on law, metaphysics and epistemology or books that are very, very, very rare and obscure.

If it’s on the Bestseller list or if it’s famous. I don’t read it. To me a book looses it’s charm if it’s very accessible.

That’s well, interesting Lakshya. Speaking of Law, ever seen Boston Legal? It’s a follow up on The Practice, brilliant, hilarious, and possibly one of the most intelligent shows on TV today.

Have I seen Boston Legal? I’m a huge fan. I’ve seen the first 2 seasons but haven’t got around to the third one yet. I was a HUGE fan of The Practice as well.

Denny Crane…

Oh the 3rd Season, the 3rd Season. Genius I tell you. I’m a watcher every week, the second it comes up on TorrentSpy and other sites. (To any lurker who’s reading this, no, I don’t speak Latin and watch TV all day long, I’ve got a schedule, as it were :))

The 3rd Season’s easily the best, even better than the other 2. (I’m more of an Alan Shore fan meself :))

You know, this is apropos of nothing, but strangely enough, we’re all strangely similar in some way or the other. Latin, Heroes, BLegal (as I call it :)), general geekiness, and just a sort of universal wackyness. It’s brilliant. (I’ll be writing brilliantness if I don’t watch it :P)

As activity seems done for the day, and for the 3900th post :): Daily Round up at the end of a frenetic, brilliant day. (You know, it seems that the days before ISC exams are always the most busy :))
